I had this vaccination this morning, and by golly it hurts! My arm is stiff and sore, I suppose it is the muscle, but it is very sore to lift my arm. Has anyone else had this and the same symptoms? How long does it last?

There are side effects, but they do pass.
When you weigh up the consequences of not having it and contracting pneumonia, it's well worth it.
Hope it eases soon.

Yes,a few years ago now but because I had the flu one at the same time I didn't know which one to blame for the tenderness. It didn't last long so far as I can remember.

You need to keep your arm totally relaxed as the needle goes in. If it is stiff and sore now moving it about as much as possible will help.

Thank you for your repliees.
Yes, I am trying the moving thing, and it does help, through very gritted teeth at first.

I hate to say this but it is the nurse and how she does it that makes the difference. Some are really just not trained .

I had it about 2 weeks ago and my arm was flipping sore for about 2 days.

Had it a couple of years ago with no after effects at all. Hope it doesn't last long.

MargaretX. I agree
I had it a few years ago and no side effects at all no soreness or pain I never get any after effects from the flu jab either

Just reminded me I was advised to have this by the coronary care nurse but so far they haven't contacted me again. I'm seeing the dr on Tues so will ask about it. The flu jab normally gives me a sore, itchy arm for a couple of days.

After a disturbed night, taking paracetamol at 2.30am, the soreness is beginning to fade, a bit.
I'm sure you are right MargaretX, the 'nurse' was someone I had never seen before, and I certainly have never had discomfort from the Flu vacs!
But why, when the needle went into my upper arm, am I so sore all around my shoulder blade and below?

Willow10 Sun 27-Jan-19 08:44:19

I don't remember having any after effects from the pneumo or the flu vac at the doctor's surgery and never felt them going in. I missed the flu vac at the surgery this winter, so had it done at the chemist. The length of time she took to do it, you would have thought she was drilling for oil! It was really sore for days afterwards. I'll be going back to the surgery next time. Hope you feel better soon.

I usually react to every vaccination under the sun! A warm pad/hot water bottle helps as does paracetamol, and moving it a lot as previously suggested. Hope the pain goes soon.

I'm not sure "the nurse" can be blamed ...my husband was next up after me, had the same vaccination given by the same nurse. He had no after effects whatsoever!

Intramuscular injections get it into the bloodstream faster. The pain is a response to the small amount of virus in the injection which your immune system is fighting with antibodies.
If you ever did get the illness the vaccine is for, then it would be recognised by your body and it would be geared up to fight it immediately, having already made a store of antibodies.
Certain vaccines have to be repeated over time as they degrade.

No, didn’t feel a thing, and no after effects.

Had mine last November and then a week later spent a week in hospital and actually diagnosed with pneumonia itself. I was told it was coincidental. Didn't know then and still don't!

Grannyknot sympathies to you.
Everyone that I have spoken to have said they got no after effects from the jab. But it was on Saturday morning, and the site of the injection is still tender! I have had headaches as well. Perhaps I was slightly under the weather, and it is just side effects.
