Dilemma over holiday

Sounds like you already know what you are going to do! I have to say that after a chest infection you can feel really rotten for a bit. Hope things improve soon for you all.

I would go. France is close, you have reciprocal medical service (at the moment). Your DiL has your son with her. Going away will charge the batteries for the long haul to Spring.
We are going to Florida on Wednesday. Our first ever winter sunshine holiday and I who never gets a cold, has a stinker. But I am trusting it will be gone by Wednesday #cockeyedoptimist.?

You still have a EHIC card, so you can be seen under the National Health in France, any money you need to pay will get refunded, when you return home. I can assure you from my experience, that their Health system is second to none, and comes top of World Health Organisation list of Health care, so rest assured there. At the end the decision is his, but a change might be as good as a rest.

You do not say where you are staying. If you are staying in a familiar place then really you are having a change of surroundings and DH will be no worse off than staying home. If you are joining a busy tour then I understand his reluctance. If you can both control the pace of life whilst away..then go for it: a change is as good as a rest!
Should you need it hospitals and medical care in France is fine!

Take whatever medication you need and go, assuming hiking, skiing or any other strenuous activity is planned have quiet relaxing holiday, you will both feel much better

We are flying to Geneva then have transport to Annecy and staying there, had planned to have one day visiting Chamonix and Mont Blanc
No strenuous activities planned, just walking.

I live in France and the health care is excellent. But if you or your husband are stressing about things then maybe you should think twice about going.

You don't even have to walk if you don't want to so I agree with those who think it will do you good. You can pretty much do what you do at home without all those jobs which sit at the back of your mind needing doing. I think one of the best things about holidays is that you can't do those silly little jobs you have been putting off so don't think about them. Enjoy.

You don’t say how long the holiday is but presuming it’s not an extended one you don’t say where but my only hold back would be if it’s in the middle of nowhere otherwise I m sure the change will do you both good

I lugged my poor OH with PD to Switzerland last year. He survived - he did very little and just enjoyed the views; and the journey was hugely challenging, but I had a great time and it did us both good in some ways.

Good health care where you are going, so a change of scenery might be a good thing.

I do hope you go to those beautiful places, the air is so clean I’m sure it will do your husband some good. You’ll be in safe hands in France.

I’d think about the kind of things we’d likely to be doing on the holiday and the kind of weather we’d be doing them in and then try to take a view on whether we’d actively choose to do those things at home now given the same kind of circumstances.

I once decided to go on a booked and paid for holiday when I hadn’t been feeling very well with a chest infection and hoped that it would clear up in a couple of days. But it didn’t and I had a pretty miserable time of it and missed out most of the things I’d been planning to see and do.
