DIL diagnosed with cancer

Thank you to all you lovely people who replied to my original thread- which I cannot find.
DiL was operated on last week & although they found more tumours than they expected they are confident they have removed it all. She was in ITU for 3 days but now in another hospital & doing well. Obviously after a full Hysterectomy she will be resting up for a while before Chemo starts but so far so good.
I have to say that the way they had prepared their 3 young children was amazing & they took it all in their stride. I was looking after them on the day of op & some days afterwards too & they showed no distress at all- they knew Mummy was having an op. & they would not be able to see her for a few days. It is so important that young children are told as much of the truth as they can understand.
Thank you all for your words of comfort which I appreciated very much.

Fingers crossed and yes I do agree when two of my grandkids at 4 and 6 lost their Dad to cancer my daughter answered every question honestly and took professional advice as to things like the funeral which they attended and although they cried and were upset they knew the truth they were looking for him coming back
I ll never forget the funeral it was a bright sunny day and the youngest one was skipping along behind the procession and her Dad would have loved that

Sending your DDiL my very best wishes too Craftycat I sincerely hope she goes on to make a full recovery. I agree that it is best to be as honest and open as possible with young children (without frightening them obviously) as they often fear the unknown and tend to fill in the gaps themselves.

You must be so proud of the way your son and his wife have handled this, particularly in relation to the children. I am sending all good wishes and hope that the chemo will not prove too taxing. flowers

What great news, long may it continue. Chemo won't be pleasant and the children will have to be very patient when Mummy feels grim but it sounds as if you are a very loving and sensible family who will get through this triumphantly.

My love to you all flowers
