Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a nasty chronic cough after taking Omeprazole long term . I had this cough for 7 months and after researchng it found it could be caused by Omeprazole. The doctors were dismissive of it but when I stopped Omeprazole the cough started to clear straight away. I also found that my asthma improved masively at he same time

Apparently, according to research, it occurs in 1.1% of users but is not mentioned in the side effects leaflet.

I know someone who developed a tickle cough after taking lansaprazole - same thing, I think

I had a similar cough when taking carbimazole for hyperthyroid. I can’t remember how long for, but at least sux months. Nobody seemed worried.

Ooh I wonder if that’s what is causing my intermittent dry cough. I might ask my GP next time I see her.

A lot of medications have side effects- some are not obvious until people are on them for months or years as the clinical trials only last a few months. PPIs, though very effective for short term at allowing ulcers to heal, seem to have more negative effects long term.

Lots of other articles online too though I didn’t see any specific reference to cough.
My own experience was bad diarrhea after only about 6 weeks on lanzoprazole, prescribed after hiatus hernia diagnosis.
