If you are over 70

How can they impose this. My husband is over 70 but I am definitely not. I can’t see him staying at home for four months. The over 70’s are people not statistics.

The death rate will go UP because we'll all be murdering eachother.

I don't want to miss seeing the rest of the family either but if needs must we're used to living in isolation. We have plenty to keep us busy.

Think of the money we'll save!

pity help those without a garden. They are not allowed out at all in spain, except for food or pharmacy

I am 82 so doomed from the start but I am also scheduled for a THR in a private hospital in less than 2 weeks.
Calls are being made for all private beds to be used by NHS.
I am penalised on all counts but no problem self isolating as I cannot get out.

I'm not 70, I'm 65 but it wouldn't bother me. I like my own company and peace and quiet. As long as I could have my shopping delivered and left outside. I have my phone, laptop, tv and my cats. I'm a competition addict so that would keep me busy.
Forgive me for seeming daft but when they say isolation, does this mean with all windows and doors shut for four months and not able to go out into the garden?

If it means me staying put for the next 6 months when I turn 80, then so be it. After that----------------

I am 76 and alone most of the time. Whilst I would not relish being on ‘house arrest’ for four months, if it prevents me dying from a horrible virus, I would willingly put up with it.

Does it mean that we can’t go out at all? Long walks along the beach or in the countryside? Surely this is ok?

As long as it applies to all........judges, the Lords, MPs, company directors, Boris's dad etc etc . Isn't Corbyn 70? So his constituents are expected to go unrepresented for 4 months. I'm not 70 so won't be affected, but husband is and he has no intention of being put under house arrest for no crime. If either of us catches the virus then of course we'd self isolate.

I am assuming this idea is for our own protection - but what happens when the 4 months comes to an end and the bug is still around I do not know.

I could manage if I had to - bad timing as I have just lost my DH and company and getting out and about are likely the best way to lift my spirits. And I would have hoped to be moving house during that period of time.

We can only wait and see. I would just engage myself in a new craft project.

i think this is the best advice for survival. in practical terms.
i know it can sound a bit daunting.
but at least everyone on here has the internet to entertain them, and keep in touch with friends/ relatives.
as to MPs etc, much of their work could still be done from home, including helping constituents, much of that is giving information/ advice/ liaising with other agencies.
as for GPS, hosp appts, many of them are already doing much of it by phone and or video link.
no one in meant to attend GPs without getting permission first, which is rarely given at he moment.
we can all help keep each other's spirits up on here.

by the way if anyone needs any basic easy cook ready meals, i can recommend parsley box. they are reasonably priced, deliver to the door, and best of all can be stored at ambient temperature for several months, no fridge or freezer space needed. they can be microwaved or in oven if preferred.

As long as she made the decision herself (albeit it may have been after advice) then I'm fine with it, and she is 93 almost 94, which is almost a generation older than 70 years old people. What any individual decides that doesn't endanger others is fine by me, but enforced house arrest of innocents is beyond the pale.

It hit me tonight, could not sleep, 4 months I understand that but 4 months confined to quarters, not able to cycle solo or go for a walk.

You get to sleep, if and I repeat, if that happens it seems to be that you can go outdoors because the virus isn't airborne it's passed on via people.
