Official Advice on what we should be doing

I think like many others I have been reliant on tv and newspapers, and discussion on GN about what the Corvid-19 restrictions at every level actually entailed.

Last night within another thread pattypie posted a link to the official government 'leaflet' to what we can and cannot do.

I read it and found it so clear I thought it should be given a thread of its own so that more can see it.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people/guidance-on-social-distancing-for-everyone-in-the-uk-and-protecting-older-people-and-vulnerable-adults

Thank you pattypie

Thanks for that MOnica it didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know, but some people are so, I hesitate to say - thick!
People I know who have serious health problems are still seeing their ACs who are still working in offices and socialising with their neighbours and when we declined an invitation to go to their home for a drink they got very huffy.
I’m not sure if they just don’t want to hear it or really don’t understand.

Yes, I knew what was written but I found I was often getting assailed by others as to what the guidance really was and they were insisting I was putting myself and others at risk by my understanding of the regulations.

When this happens, one does begin to wonder whether one has got it right. Now I have read this (and printed it out) I can confidently defend my position - like DH going out and buying the newspapers each day. Go early, the papers are on a stand outside, the shop will be empty and the arrangement of the tills means you are always at least a full metre - and more, from the till operator and the papers will be paid for with a contactless card.

I might try to put the link onto my FB Page.

As you say it’s good to be able to point to something and say ‘this is why I’m doing it’ I just think that some people don’t want to face up to anything that alters their way of life, the people I referred to have a wide social circle of friends and activities, are rarely at home and have been retired for a very long time.
When they are alone together they spend all of their time arguing, I dread to think what they will be like in 3 months time!

I hope that most on here have read this ad nauseam , but a kind thought.

I was being told over-70s had to socially exclude for three months, which is not the case, and I knew was not the case. Now I have an official government guidance document to refer to that will back me up if I am assailed again.

I am not taking the restrictions lightly, from the box for deliveries outside the door, to the only one trip out weekly for provisions, but DH's one mile round trip to get papers is his daily exercise, although he does spend a lot of time pottering around the house.

Thanks M0nica good clear sensible advice for all.

Rosiebee Sat 21-Mar-20 10:25:25

Thanks Monica, appreciated the publication. So much stuff swirling round, it's good to get simple and authoritative advice.

Calendargirl Sat 21-Mar-20 10:58:08

The advice will no doubt change from day to day though.

BlueSky Sat 21-Mar-20 12:54:02

Yes walks in quiet areas still allowed but if we follow Europe even these won't be. Still what's got to be done got to be done, at least we are in the comfort our own home.brew

M0nica Sat 21-Mar-20 13:29:49

Calendargirl if advice changes then I think this document will be updated, so the link will always be the lead to the best information.

This is really useful, thank you @M0nica
I've just signed up to Gransnet in the hope of finding sensible chats!
Has anyone any idea of guidance for those like me who look after GC in their home, with GC's parents working from home? I am just over 60, healthy, no symptoms. Other half healthy but has mild asthma.

M0nica Sun 22-Mar-20 14:51:33

I think that would be OK but you would have to be very strict over hygiene measures. Details are in the Guidance.

Thank you, very useful.

GrandmaMoira Sun 22-Mar-20 16:08:19

I put this on my FB page but there was not one like or share so don't know if FB algoriths mean not many saw it or people just aren't interested. Family members who posted also got little reaction.

Fiachna50 Sun 22-Mar-20 16:24:44

Hatcham, just do lots of handwashing and wiping down surfaces with disinfectant or soap.

Hatcham Mon 23-Mar-20 17:47:52

Hi everyone. Thankyou all for your thoughts. I will be speaking to GC parents later.
