Thermometers

I have a very very old mercury thermometer which takes for ever to reach normal temperature.
Are those forehead strip thermometers (as used for babies) reliable and accurate? I was thinking I need a new one and wondering which type to get.
Any recommendations?

I'd get an electronic thermometer. Either one for ear or forehead. The strips are not really reliable, or accurate.

The strip thermometers are apparently not very accurate, as MiniMoon says. Ear ones have to be inserted correctly.

So I'd go for either an electronic one for mouth or under arm, or an electronic one for the forehead.

Nothing difficult about the ear ones though!

I find the ear one easy to use.

I've got a mercury one from donkeys years ago and it's spot on. Let's face it, it's all there was once.
I remember breaking one on the hospital ward and was ages chasing the little balls of mercury. I had to also put some money in the box in sister's office towards breakages. blush
