I have the blood group AB rhesus Neg

Jane10 Wed 15-Apr-20 21:14:47

Gosh that's 3 of us AB+ and all allergic to penicillin. Interesting...
Only 6% of people in the UK are AB+ I read.

I’m Orh neg, I gave blood last week, very different with the waiting area chairs spaced out for social distancing, being asked not to arrive more than 5 minutes before your appointment etc. The nurse said there was still a full attendance so this hasn’t stopped people from giving which is very encouraging and let’s face it, it’s a trip out! This time the the nurse who did the blood drop test remarked on how quickly it went down, I did wonder why until I remembered I’m going through a phase of enjoying a lot of spring greens at the moment!

My children who emigrated to Australia can’t give blood there because they lived in the UK at the time of Mad Cow Disease.

I thought as much ! When blood group and link to cancer/dementia etc and now coronavirus, it's always mine!

Juliet27 Wed 15-Apr-20 22:19:40

Me too BlueSky. We’re doomed!

I know my blood group and have tried to give blood several times but they always turned me away because of iron deficiency - I gave up even bothering to try.

SalsaQueen Wed 15-Apr-20 22:36:01

O res Positive. Yes, I've been a blood donor for years, My next session is 29th April

SalsaQueen Wed 15-Apr-20 22:36:51

My husband and one of our 2 sons are both AB +

Oopsminty Wed 15-Apr-20 22:42:39

No idea what blood type I am.

I really should know

I'm unable to donate blood due to having a blood transfusion in 1981 after suffering a PPH whilst having my first baby

FlexibleFriend Wed 15-Apr-20 22:44:17

O+ and no I don't give blood, I've been told I can't and nor can I donate my organs.

twiglet77 Wed 15-Apr-20 22:50:49

I'm O+, have given blood in the past but no longer allowed since I've had breast cancer. Apparently I can't be an organ donor either, for anything except the corneas.

Caro6699 Wed 15-Apr-20 22:56:30

A -. I used to donate regularly but much too old now

Chestnut Wed 15-Apr-20 23:46:25

TrendyNannie6 - I am AB negative too! Less than 1% of people in the UK have this group so it is the very rarest!
I gave blood for years, 36 donations, but had to stop when I started taking a certain drug they didn't like.

Grannmarie Thu 16-Apr-20 00:02:59

I'm O neg, I was told I'm.a universal donor, apparently anyone can receive my blood.
I was a regular donor for several years, in fact the Blood Transfusion Service used to send a car to pick me up from school every 6/8 weeks to take me to the centre to donate blood through a process called plasmapheresis, where I donated blood but received my red cells back to prevent anaemia. This was in the late 70s, I stopped going when I was expecting DS2.
Ironically, when I was being prepared for possible section to deliver DS2, I had to wait for ages for them to find a cross match for my blood.

Helennonotion Thu 16-Apr-20 02:02:50

AB+ here and also allergic to penicillin! My recent donation was cancelled but they don't often need my blood group anyway.

BlueSapphire Thu 16-Apr-20 07:03:09

O positive; gave blood for about 15 years then had to stop as I had a blood transfusion after major surgery.

dragonfly46 Thu 16-Apr-20 07:17:59

Yes I used to. I am O negative.

I know my blood group but it is no use to anyone, except me. New Zealand will not accept blood or organ donations from Brits because of mad cow disease.

joannapiano Thu 16-Apr-20 08:16:42

I am O Neg and have given 65 times. I started as a student. I was due to donate next month but received an e mail to say nobody over 70 was allowed to attend sessions at the moment. As previously said, they love my blood, which can be given to anyone in an emergency.

TwiceAsNice Thu 16-Apr-20 09:12:28

A+. I used to donate but not now I am older. Am a bit perturbed that my group might be more risky for the virus. Also thought O group was universal donor. Have I got that wrong?

harrigran Thu 16-Apr-20 09:30:16

A pos, I am surprised at women who say they don't know their blood group. When you get pregnant it is the first blood test they do, I was given a printed card and used to keep it in my wallet.
I suffer from ailments that are typical of blood group A, digestive disorders and am better if I follow a diet that eliminates the irritants.

Missedout Thu 16-Apr-20 09:35:18

My immune system is so damaged that I have to have my antibodies replaced regularly. I would have no defences against infection without this treatment. I am grateful to everyone who donates blood and plasma, you give me a quality of life that I couldn't have dreamed of 5 years ago. A vaccine against Covid-19 can't help me because I don't make or retain antibodies but my antibody replacement therapy will with time.

Thank you.

B neg, and yes. I have an appointment booked for the first week in June, and that’ll be my 49th. I have a friend who’s hoping to make her 100th donation later this year.

DanniRae Thu 16-Apr-20 09:45:21

B+ I used to give blood but no longer.
