Effective treatment for corn on ball of foot?

I have an extremely painful corn on the outside of the ball of my foot which makes walking very difficult. I've tried corn plasters and also a pumice stone, neither of which made any difference at all. Many years ago I had one in the exact same place and finished up having it removed by a chiropodist. I've had this new one for quite a while, so it's deep seated. Can anyone recommend an effective over the counter remedy, please?

Are you sure it's not a verruca? That might need a different approach.

I had one years ago on the ball of the foot and had to have it removed by the hospital as it was very deeply embedded in that position.

I don't think it's a verruca, although I have had them in the past. To be honest, I just assumed it was a corn. It's blooming painful whatever it is! Might tough it out and see a chiropodist when they open up.
