Recently told I have mild costochondritis...inflammation of the rib cage. Can be managed with paracetamol and ibuprofen. Has anyone had this...and how have they managed it, please?

I had it diagnosed about sixteen years ago. Resting when you notice it is exacerbated seems to help. I still have a permanent sore patch just to the right of my sternum. The amount of soreness comes and goes. I've had that since I was at school so I think it's probably part of the arthritis I've also been diagnosed with and for which I take painkillers every day.

Swimming and Scottish dancing made the costochondritis worse, possibly because of deeper breathing. Walking and cycling are okay, although they make other bits of me ache instead. Hey ho.

I had it diagnosed about 10 years ago and my doc suggested painkillers for a few months. Seemed to work, although it does pop up again every now and then but only briefly.

Had it following pneumonia and again more recently following an accident. Analgesia worked and it went after about three weeks. Second time was worse. Just remember to take it easy, unfortunately we can’t “ rest” our ribs like we can other areas of our body so need to be careful.

I was diagnosed with this a few years ago but then it was decided I didn't have it due to the fact it was chronic. Apparently it only lasts a few weeks whereas I've been suffering with 'something for about 5 years now

Hi, yes I have this, brought on by my job about ten years ago. I’m suffering at the moment as I’ve been to work today and had to do a different job which at my age 63 is not a good idea. My dr sent me for a scan last year that showed I have gallstones, I went to see a consultant and he has offered to take my gallbladder out , but doesn’t think it will help with the pain in my ribs.
I have a hot bath, then use a hot water bottle and two iboporfen to ease the spasms which can go on for about 12 hours. Hopefully when I retire it’ll feel better.

My son had it after humping parcels around (was his job , at the time). Got better with painkillers and no parcels !

A few years ago, I had acute agonising pain deep in my chest...I thought I was having a heart attack. After various tests ECG etc, it was concluded that I had Costochondritis, an inflammation of the rib cage. It disappeared as quickly as it appeared and I haven't had an episode since.
Took anti-inflammatories for a few days.

Physio can help apparently.
