I have had terrible migraines off and on for years. I’ve tried every pill and the clusters get closer together and more frequent these days. My specialist on the NHS said the occipital injection is the next step, but I’m nervous as it’s in the spine. Has anyone had it? Has it worked? We’re there side effects? Thank you I’m feeling ????

I’ve never heard of that treatment but I sympathise as a fellow migraine-sufferer. flowers

Have you had the botox treatment, which sounds less invasive than the spinal one? A friend has had it with some good success. It does need to be repeated though.

I’ve never heard of this treatment. I was told that Botox in the forehead was a good treatment for migraine. Also, have you tried a low dose of Emilim? It’s an epilepsy drug but quite effective for circular migraine

DD has the Botox injections every so often, it works really well and she always recommends this treatment to friends.
It’s available by NHS for severe migraine patients.

Never heard of the spinal injection, you would have to discuss
This with your GP as to benefits and drawbacks.

I hadn’t heard of the Botox treatment, I’ll ask my specialist if that is a possibility. I had been told that menopause would ease my migraines but the past year or so it’s been far worse and Im starting to feel like I’m losing my mind.

Thank you so much for all of your replies. I hadn’t known about Botox as an option, I try to only ask my doctor rather than use google as it scares me into thinking I have something worse, but the doctor didn’t offer the Botox option so I’ll request could I try that before the more drastic option. It’s heartening to hear some of you and your children have had some success with it. Humbertbear, I haven’t tried that drug so I’ll ask, the last one I was on was a very low dose of amitriptyline, but it made me into a zombie so discontinued it after a week.

You can read up on the injection here, it doesn't seem to have any side effects other than possible local ones? www.nationalmigrainecentre.org.uk/migraine-and-headaches/migraine-and-headache-factsheets/greater-occipital-nerve-block/
