How much weight to lose

I have managed to slowly lose around 17 lb/7kg this year. I did not start with a specific goal weight in mind and am now wondering when you know you have lost enough? My BMI is 23 and I know charts say I could lose quite a bit more but am thinking I could look even older if I lost more.
I'd be grateful for advice from anyone else who has lost weight.

Well done. That's a lot of weight. BMI of 23 sounds healthy to me.

I’d like to lose a pound☹️

Well it would help if you shared how much you weigh and how tall you are.
I’ve just lost 12lb and now weigh 10st4lb(give or take about 2lb)
I am 5ft6 and I don’t think I want to be any thinner.

Bmi 23 is perfect. Just keep an eye on things so it doesnt creep back on. Well done.

I’d like to lose a pound

Doesnt matter how tall and how much Butterfly has is because a bmi takes height and weight into account and a bmi of 23 is right in the middle of perfect.

...how much Butterfly has lost....typo

I think your bmi takes into account your height so the figures indicates whether you’re within the guidelines for your height regardless of what it is.

Well done. I agree losing too much weight can make you look gaunt. I always go on my dress size, for me a 12 is perfect, but when I went down to a 10 I was definitely too thin.

Thank you all. I am 5' 3" and 9st 3lb and have gone from size 16 to size 14. My weight is okay but ideally I would like to be size 12 but think maybe my face would look older.

Congratulations to all those achieving their goals in weight loss. I’ve piled it on - lack of exercise, eating and drinking too much, Covid and nursing DH! I’m not stupid - eat less and move more - but 3 stones to shift now!!

Elusive your height and weight sounds fine to me. I bet you can easily squeeze into a 12. Go on, give it a try.
I struggle at 5’ and 12 stones size 16. Realistic Goal size 14. Less realistic (but I can dream )size 12.

Silverlining - I have a couple of size 12 tops but they are uncomfortably tight and show off too much. Size 12 trousers would go nowhere near me.

We’re all different, him is a good standard, but body shape differs between us. Hence the ‘normal’ clothes sizing might not fit the same on two or more people of the same height/weight.

BMI not him!!!!

Some years ago I lost 3 stone over a year and stopped because new lines appeared on my cheeks. 1 stone crept back on.
In the past 4 months I’ve lost 17lbs and am still 1 stone too heavy but I’m looking about 10 years older. I have to choose between fat and wrinkles.

My neighbour had breast cancer years ago. After several months last year when I hadn't seen her, she looked terrible - haggard, gaunt. I thought "OMG, the cancer's returned" and didn't know what to say.

Turned out she'd been to Weight Watchers. Well, it hadn't done her any favours as she had lost far too much and looked ill. Someone said, I don't know who, that as you get older you have to choose between your face and your backside re weight.

Have recently lost 2 stone - think I could do with losing a bit more in terms of bmi but not sure I should bearing in mind what sparklefizz says about face and bum lol

Elusivebutterflycongrats on your weight loss. I am also 5'3" and I've lost weight over the past few months and now I'm back in a size 12 (having been a size 14 and sometimes a size 16 in jeans). Yet I weigh 10 st 7lbs. It just goes to show that we are all different, body shapes etc.

When I look in the mirror, I'm aware that I don't want to lose any more weight. smile

fevertree Fri 04-Dec-20 22:38:47

Oops I just realised I am still a size 14 in trousers. 12 for tops. Apologies blush

That`s great result. Last year I get started lose weight and after long trainings and diets I had lose near 10 kg for year and now my weight +-49 kg.

It’s whatever feels right for you. A BMI of 23 is absolutely fine. For me that’s 10 stone and I find that’s my best weight - if I lose any more people start asking if I’m ill and the cleavage starts to dwindle. smile I haven’t been able to exercise much lately and my BMI’s currently up at 24.5. Still just within the healthy range but I’m working on losing that half a stone.
