I am retired so don't set alarm unless I have an appointment,I like to lay a while after waking then wash face brush teeth, don't have breakfast I have a mug of green tea then shower dry hair then I'm ready for day ahead .Routine has changed in lockdown we were usually up and getting ready to go out for day .

I have to take my first meds with a glass of water, no tea or coffee, one hour before my second meds. When I was working I would get up as soon as I’d had my second meds, do my exercises and take my morning tea up to my office. Now I’m retired Mr. B brings my morning tea and I get up and moving at a much more leisurely pace. Lockdown coincided with retirement.

We are retired, but still set the alarm. I whack the snooze button 3/4 times.
Meanwhile DH has usually got up to make a pot of tea, as he has done throughout our married life, and without which I don't think I could function.

He always washes/showers before breakfast and now always makes the bed.
I go down in my dressing gown and nightie, have breakfast, catch up on my IPad before washing/ showering and dressing.

Our routine has definitely become a lot more relaxed since lockdown, unless of course we have a Dr's appointment.

Depends on the day. For over forty years I got up at 5 am without a problem, even weekends, now I'm retired I usually wake at 7 am. I get up almost straight away, have breakfast, make coffee then get washed and dressed. Monday is the only day I wash my hair - it's very long and thick and takes a couple of hours to wash and dry. Once I am dressed I just get on with doing whatever I want to get done - which at the moment means some work on the house or garden. If OH isn't at work we sometimes get up early and go for a long walk before everyone else is up and about, and have breakfast when we get back, or pick something up to take away from the local coffee shop.

Lockdown hasn't made a vast difference to my life - not seeing friends and family in person and having OH working at home are the main ones.

I wake any time between 6/7 i make a cuppa watch the news in bed and check my messages etc. In the shower by 8 then breakfast and meds. In Summer I'm up earlier and take an early walk, breakfast in the garden but lockdown hasn't really changed my routine.

AGAA4 Tue 16-Mar-21 16:02:35

Never set the alarm as I wake up every morning around 7am. Catch up with the news while I have my breakfast, shower then usually off for a walk to start my day.

EllanVannin Tue 16-Mar-21 16:31:51

Because my body is adjusting to the changeing hour which is in a couple of weeks time, I'm waking up before 7am instead of 8am.
Bathroom is the first port of call then kettle on for the strongest cup of tea imaginable. Sometimes I breakfast before a shower it depends how hungry I am. Watch the news on TV then turn on the computer for Gransnet.

Usually within an hour I start to prepare my breakfast.

NotAGran55 Tue 16-Mar-21 16:39:51

Very early waker here so have never used an alarm . I don’t get out of bed until 6 and start the day with 2 large cups of strong coffee. Shower , hair washed and dried etc ,dressed by breakfasted by 8 regardless of what I am doing.
No difference at all in my routine since the first lockdown and semi retirement this year.

I don't have an alarm as a I don't think it's good for you to be shocked awake. I'm lucky as I work flexible hours so don't have to be at work at a particular time. I get up between 6 & 7 most days and go downstairs to make my porridge, which I have with fruit, Greek yoghurt and honey along with a large strong cuppa. I then watch Good Morning Britain for about an hour or so to catch up with the latest news. I have to say it's not the same without Piers! Then I shower, dress, put make up on, do hair and then I'm ready for the day. My DH stays in bed and I really like having that early morning hour or so to myself. The early morning is my favourite time of the day.

Jaxjacky Tue 16-Mar-21 16:52:22

Up when I’ve fully woken, about 7, earlier if the alarm has been set for DH to go to work, later if we’ve been up later the night before. Few steps to en-suite, loo, teeth, deodorant, dress. Downstairs tea for me, coffee for him, I need about an hour, with more tea to fully surface, I’ll shower or bath later in the day.

One of the best things about being retired is not having to be woken up by an alarm. Waking up naturally is so much better.

Kate1949 Tue 16-Mar-21 17:19:57

No alarms here since retirement. I don't usually get up early these days unless I've got somewhere to go, which I haven't these days obviously.
DH is usually up first. He puts the heating on and makes tea. I have a cuppa and then shower and dress.

cornishpatsy Tue 16-Mar-21 17:20:18

Most of the time I can get up when I like. Bathroom, get dressed, tea and toast.

When I have to use an alarm clock it makes me unnecessarily angry for an hour or more.

Grandma70s Tue 16-Mar-21 17:45:57

I’ve only ever used an alarm when I’ve had an early plane or train to catch. I wake naturally between five and six. I get myself a mug of tea and bring it back to bed, then check my iPad and watch some of BBC Breakfast. Have a shower most days (not absolutely always), wash hair every other day, then have breakfast in my dressing gown at about 7.30. I usually get dressed after breakfast.

Calendargirl Tue 16-Mar-21 17:48:35

Never have an alarm. Get up when I wake, usually 6.30ish. Get dressed, (showered at night), draw all curtains, turn Classic FM on the radio, make toast, porridge, coffee, orange juice.
Eat and drink while looking at my I pad, banking, Facebook, weather, GN.

Then DH gets up, which is ok, as I like a while to myself.

When we had lots of children at home we started setting the clock at 5.45 so we could have tea in peace before they got up.

Now we wake up at 5.45 without an alarm. One of us makes tea and we bring it back to bed, take tablets and watch the news for an hour or so.

I have a shower while dh empties the dishwasher and throws out yesterday's papers.

Then dh has his shower while I faff about upstairs.

We chat a lot!

Kim19 Tue 16-Mar-21 18:05:55

I wake early but just lie there feeling good and entertain myself with assistance of either a book or iPad. Lately I haven't been getting up until 10ish then it's straight to the shower followed by a leisurely time of grooming and dressing. I then tidy and turn back the bed before opening two bedroom windows. Then it's downstairs and preparation and consumption of a hearty brunch. Now that the lighter mornings and the forthcoming extra hour is upon us I suspect my rising hour will change radically.

foxie48 Tue 16-Mar-21 18:20:43

Never set my alarm so wake up time varies but if it's early eg before 07.00 I listen to the radio via an ear piece as once I put the radio on without it, OH appears with a pot of tea and my phone. We always have a chat whilst I drink my tea, he's a dreadful snorer so now has his own room and tbh I love having my own bedroom and bathroom but still miss his company but it's a very pragmatic solution to a problem! I get dressed before breakfast, showering etc depends on what I'm doing, if I'm walking the dog it's before dressing, if I am going over to see my lovely horse, I shower later on when I change out of breeches etc. Since retiring I live at a much slower pace although I'm fairly busy I don't live by the clock anymore.

One of the best things about retirement was NOT having to be woken up with an alarm. As I have to get up several times each night for trip to loo, I usually take my thyroxine tabs during one of those visits around 5 ish each morning. Then back to sleep - I have found that the further it gets towards morning, the easier it is to fall to sleep!! Usually wake around 7.30ish, take ten minutes or so, waking up and considering my plans for the day, Then get up, having to sit on bed for a couple of mninute before actually standing up. Get out of bed side of window, and open the curtains and pull up the blind there and consider whether or not is wet outside, Trip to loo, then dressing gown and slippers on and over to Kitchen. I lay out the night before my bowl, mug, porridge sachet and small t-pot with tea in it. Turn on Hot water heater, and put t-pot on it, milk and blueberries from fridge and porridge in bowl into microwave. Brekkie then on tray on my walking trolley taken into sitting room, where I turn on tv (BBC1), and enjoy my breakfast whilst watching Breakfast. Finishing that, I get my laptop and check fb, emails and then on to G.net,. Usually manage to waste enough time until about 9.30 ish when I go for my shower, tidying bed, and getting dressed and ready for the day.

Esspee Tue 16-Mar-21 19:04:18

I wake around 7ish, check my emails and the news, then get up, have breakfast, have a bath then get my day started.

diygran Tue 16-Mar-21 19:14:27

Our dog wakes us up 6 to 6.30am without fail. OH gets up as he is light sleeper. I turn over and sleep on till 8am or longer in winter.
Love a good breakfast of yogurt, fruit and granola or muesli and am always desperate for cup of tea.
After 9am I shower and perhaps wash hair. We are retired now and our only boss is the dog!

Gingster Tue 16-Mar-21 19:24:47

Little pooch usually wakes me about 7. DH sleeps on. I go down, let dog out and make a cuppa. Look at weather, news and Gransnet on I pad. This usually takes a couple of hours. ?. I wake DH up and have a shower. DD sometimes pops in after school run for a quick coffee. Dh and I have breakfast. Me porridge or oatiflakes, fruit and yoghurt. DH has Alpen and yoghurt every day.
I take little pooch out and am back for hot lemon and honey. Bit of housework and washing and then watch Bargain Hunt.
