Intermittent vomiting and diarrhoea

This is happening to my dd in her fifties. A few weeks ago she had sudden and violent vomiting. She put it down to something she had eaten. Since then this has happened off and on but accompanied with really bad diarrhoea. She has been off work since Friday with this and has little appetite. Has anyone else had anything like this? It’s really worrying me as she lives alone in rented accommodation miles away and she has a really responsible and demanding job which she loves after a long spell when life was really difficult for her. I told her to go to the doctors although she has not signed on with a new doctor since moving a year ago.

It sounds like a bug. Has tried oral rehydration therapy?
4 tablespoons of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1L of water

She should probably get it checked out, but if it is intermittent, could it be something like a lactose intolerance? I developed one fairly recently, with less spectacular symptoms (griping stomach pains) but my daughter has it too, and she has the same results as yours if she drinks milk or eats chocolate.

I just switched to lactose-free milk, and will go back to dairy after a couple of months to see if I have 'green out' of it. You can also get enzymes from health shops to take before eating dairy products, if it turns out that an intolerance is to blame.

I had exactly the same thing. Caught the bug off my son, felt extremely nauseous and couldn't even stomach food for weeks.. 2 months on I've not been right, since and currently been referred to a gastroenterologist.. Albeit taking a long while! I hope your DD feels better soon. It could well be post IBS. She should go doctors though and get some tests done to rule out everything. X

Is Kaolin and Morphine mixture still available from chemists ? It's worth an enquiry.

Probably the best thing is to grate an apple and eat it that way as it'll be easier digested and the apple will act as a disinfectant in the bowels and will help shift things if it's been a bug.

Just drink boiled cooled down water for 24hrs.

Thank you again Itsawelshthing and EllanVannin. Will give her these ideas as well.
