welbeck Mon 05-Jul-21 00:01:19

do you mean two large glasses of wine, each.
or two two large bottles...

crazyH Mon 05-Jul-21 00:01:36

Oh I love that tipsy feeling - go for it Birdwatcher, why not?

welbeck Mon 05-Jul-21 00:02:29

either way, if you can feel the effects, then maybe it's not good for your health.

Birdwatcher4 Mon 05-Jul-21 00:13:10

No two large glasses !

Antonia Mon 05-Jul-21 05:31:35

You are drinking with food and enjoying yourselves. Why not? I presume you're not driving home!

Doodledog Mon 05-Jul-21 05:44:47

A couple of glasses of wine once a week is unlikely to do any harm, so long as you aren’t driving or operating machinery?. Enjoy your meet-ups.

I would hate it now , feeling out of control. Also find it irritating when others have had too much and think they’re hilarious but I know that’s wrong of me, I used to enjoy a few glasses of wine . Now I have one small glass maybe once a week.

vegansrock Mon 05-Jul-21 06:41:51

If that’s your weekly intake it’s within the health guidelines, so enjoy!

NotAGran55 Mon 05-Jul-21 07:07:51

How large is your large glass of wine ?
If it’s 250ml which it often is , that’s quite a lot .

Perhaps 2 medium glasses might be an idea to try if you didn’t want that tipsy feeling.

But to answer your question… no it’s not too much if you aren’t driving etc. Enjoy yourself ?!

M0nica Mon 05-Jul-21 07:35:00

Now the bad news. Each 250ml glass of wine is 3 units, so two glasses will be 6 units. For women drinking 6 units of alcohol in one session is considered to be a binge drinking and drinking that much in one session will put a strain on your liver and body generally, even if you are staying within the 14 unit weekly limit. It is also associated with a higher risk of dementia

I would suggest you have two small glasses of wine instead of large ones and then enjoy another glass of wine at some other time in the week.

I mis-read the OP as two large whines ( plenty of those around) however, I think you should stick to mineral water, at our age you can’t be too careful, don’t want to have a new hip!

Too late to worry about long term damage. Enjoy! winewine

Follow the link and check the NHS site. That is what it says.

Having had breast cancer I have been told there is no safe limit for women.

Maggiemaybe Mon 05-Jul-21 08:54:30

The NHS advice is that more than 6 units at a time is classed as binge drinking, surely?

I would be flat on my face after drinking two large glasses of wine! smile For me it's one small white wine or a wine /soda spritzer at a lunchtime meal out. No alcohol if driving.

Well if you are enjoying it, can still walk in a straight line afterwards and not get a headache, go for it!

I drink a small bottle of my sisters home made cider every single day, my doctor says health tests are very good for my age and to carry on doing it!

I agree. I've had breast cancer twice and now that I'm lucky enough to be clear of it, I've become teetotal as it's not worth the risk. I can still have fun and don't miss it.

Depends on the size of the glass - and how good your capacity is.
Many wine glasses are way bigger than they ever used to be. I have some very old inherited ones, that look more like large egg cups than the average wine glass nowadays.

Just right for a little tipple when I’m cooking the dinner - pretty much routine for me now - but ‘Just the one!’ as Mrs Slocombe (wasn’t it?) used to say.
If we’re eating out I’ll usually have rather more, but that wasn’t very often even before COVID.
