Sciatica Update! Pain free!

I have had the micro surgery and now am pain free!
You were all absolutely correct that it would be worth using my rainy day savings for surgery.

The night before surgery, I had to crawl upstairs on my hands and knees. The pain was excruciating. I’m now able to use the stairs without so much as a tweak,

I have to take time to recover properly with lots of rest and gentle exercises. I’m still getting used to not being in pain.

Thank you to all you Grans for your advice and best wishes. ❤️

Glad it went well.

Money in the bank no use if you’re suffering, and spoiling quality of life.

Listening to the News last night, hearing about huge waiting lists for ops and treatment, made me think that if, God forbid, DH or I needed it, we would pay rather than suffer. I know that is not an option at the present time, but when things return to a more normal, I think many people with savings will go down that route.

Excellent news Marilla!
What are you most looking forward to doing now?

downtoearth Fri 15-Jan-21 08:14:30

I can understand your relief Marilla, at the moment I am in the grip of a flare up that is happening more recently, and hobbling like I have something nasty in my underwear.

Charleygirl5 Fri 15-Jan-21 08:47:58

Marilla it is great to read something good happening for once and thanks for keeping us updated. Please, please please look after your back because you do not want to return to that horrendous pain because you have done something stupid without thinking.

The best news this week and this may inspire others when the time is right.

Great news Marilla! My DH is waiting for similar surgery, he even had the pre op assessment but now god knows when it will happen. Uplifting to know you are now pain free! All the best.

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 15-Jan-21 10:12:46

Excellent news.

Sparklefizz Fri 15-Jan-21 10:16:43

Well done Marilla excellent news. I have suffered in the past so know how bad it can be, though obviously not as bad as yours. Very good to know that you're pain-free now, and definitely money well spent. flowers

Great news, isn’t it such a relief after suffering so much pain? I remember waking up after my 3rd surgery and saying, because I knew instantly, I’m mended!

Marilla Fri 15-Jan-21 17:41:54

Well aren’t you all lovely with your happy messages and to be so unselfish in sharing my operation success!

I feel sad for those of you still suffering and BlueSky I’m so sorry that your husband’s operation was cancelled at such short notice. Please let us all know he is doing in the coming weeks.

Fanny, I can’t wait to lift my little grandson from his cot!
Bending and lifting him has been impossible!
Going out for a walk will be such a treat too.

Ohmother Fri 15-Jan-21 18:42:53

If you went privately can I be rude and ask how much it cost? In the region of single figure thousands? You don’t have to answer if I’m being rude but genuinely asking for a friend.

Blinko Fri 15-Jan-21 18:52:19

In the context of private health care, can I mention Benenden It has been mentioned a while ago on another thread when private healthcare came up.

I've been with them for years and have had numerous procedures done, all covered by the very reasonable monthly subscription (£11.50 atm). These include cataract, gall bladder removal, and an MRI scan amongst other things.

Google them, there's no 'catch'.

Gwyneth Fri 15-Jan-21 18:56:14

Am very pleased for you Marilla. Do you mind me asking what the surgery involved?

Marilla Sat 16-Jan-21 07:52:32

Gwyneth if you google Microdiscectomy you will find some good explanations.

Juliet27 Sat 16-Jan-21 07:58:10

I second Blinko’s recommendation re Benenden. They don’t cover everything but definitely worth looking into.

Brilliant news Marilla I'm so pleased it all went well.

The advice I was given afterwards was to carry two half buckets of water and never one full one to the side! Keep evenly balanced in other words. On the occasions when I've forgotten this rule, I've regretted it!

downtoearth (((hugs))) I hope you feel better soon.

Nfkdumpling Most of us do silly things with our backs in every day activities and it’s only when we succumb to problems do we become aware of how precious our spine really is.

Your advice is absolutely sound!
Thank you for your lovely message! ?

Puzzled Sun 17-Jan-21 14:31:41

Marvellous to read good news for a change!
May your recovery be quick and long lasting!
Currently, OH has back pain. Twisting whilst raking the lawn is not an advised activity!
Often, placing two dining chairs back to back, with me in between, and hoisting myself up on arms, so that legs put spine into traction, is helpful.
Even better is remembering not to do whatever caused the nproblem in the first place is better.

Gwyneth Sun 17-Jan-21 15:12:13

Thank you Marilla much appreciated
