The Queen's Walking stick

I just saw a clip of the Queen visiting the Elizabeth Line. Is it just me who thinks her stick is supporting her sufficiently? I'm sure it's a wonderful country stick much used and possibly belonging to Prince Phillip but it's the wrong height and she isn't using it properly. It must be making Occupational Therapists frustrated that she hasn't got an walking aid of the right specification. I expect it's just me isn't it?

I'm thinking she might just have told all her advisors abd medical people to back off and that she will make her own choices thank you very much!

I noticed when she was at Prince Phillips memorial service she had a thumb stick, but it seemed to be a shorter one that had obviously been tailored to fit her. I was so taken by it that I asked my son, who makes walking sticks for a hobby, to make one for me (it’s a work in progress?!). The one she had the other night seemed to be a longer one and yes, she was holding it on the shaft. It suited her and the occasion and she’s probably used to using it like that. Could be wrong of course!

It will be like the sort of thumb stick she has used for years stalking at Balmoral.
If she finds it helpful who is to say otherwise?

I saw her on TV at the platinum jubilee celebrations and she looked lovely then I clocked the stick , she looked like she was about to scale a mountain, it looked like a typical country hiking stick... but so what, I mean who cares as long as she is happy with it and it gives her confidence.

What a remarkable lady.....smile

It doesn't look very supportive. Maybe it's more for balance than actually helping take pressure off a joint?

There’s a children’s book called The queen’s knickers.

maddyone Wed 18-May-22 08:10:08

That was to Lucca.

If a walking pole type of stick helps HM to fulfil her duties at this stage of her life, then it's a good choice. I'm sure she has access to the best advice and has been advised to use this aid as apposed to a conventional walking stick. I wish her well for her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The trad type of hip height stick doesn't help much if the spine is the main problem. I thought the thumb stick looked ideal and was helping her to keep upright.

If only the Queen was on Gransnet then she would know that she has a stick that is the wrong height and she doesn't know how to use it properly
