Spring cleaning.

I don't understand the question.

Have been tackling the bathroom this morning. Have been in this house 9 years and have never really cleaned off the rough grounding on the tiles. The whole house needs sorting out. Stuff thrown away and really cleaned.

Never do it. Just clean things as and when they need it.

Just looking at what needs doing leaves me exhausted.

It never crosses my mind! I do jobs when I feel inclined, which is not very often! For example the Oven Pride box has been standing on the kitchen worktop for a couple of months to remind me to use it!

I've got a man coming next week, sal. My box is under the sink...... I think.

I never do spring cleaning. I used to years ago but the novelty wore off. There's only the two of us here and we rarely get visitors. The house is clean enough.

Isn't life too short to worry about 'spring cleaning the house'?I vacuum and dust, keep the bathrooms/kitchen clean. In fact, I've been doing housework today, but isn't it boring? I'd much rather be gardening or having lunch with friends. As long as it's tidy and clean enough, why worry?

Why not pay a company to come and do a spring clean. It will probably only take a few hours and then you just have to keep on top of it. Life is too short to be pulling out furniture at our age.

Never have done spring cleaning , it clashes with the garden coming to life .

Bopeep in my book cleaning the oven comes under Major Cleaning Task and should be rewarded with a least a coffee and ginger biscuit or two. ☕
Pulling out cookers and fridges also comes under yet another Major Household task and should be rewarded with feet up and a cuppa.

Major tasks go on a 'to do' job list in our house and every now and again one gets ticked off, which can be quite satisfying,
but quite often the said list becomes lost or forgotten.

It sounds as though you have more than enough on your hands looking after children.

P.s. Rome wasn't built in a day, so a Month for spring cleaning sounds more than reasonable.

If you think it needs it I would get someone else to do it.
We clean kitchen and bathroom thoroughly every weekend. Vacuum corners once a month. Apart from that its whatever we have the energy for. Only two of us and not many visitors. Just like KatyK.
Energy is not what it was, sadly.

We are all different I love cleaning and find ironing therapeutic. As for gardening rather get someone in but am becoming more interested.

My mother is bedridden and cared for by my brother. I have just spent a weekend doing a deep clean of her house, so that it's clean enough for me to employ a cleaner who won't run a mile at the sight of it! I was nobly assisted by a lovely young niece who decided that she couldn't allow me to tackle it alone, but she and I are both still completely exhausted.

Oh how I wish I could afford to get someone in to do it but sadly I can’t. My Sunday’s are taken up with just regular cleaning of the house, my husband Hoovers through, but it prays on my mind when everything needs a big clean. Managed to do the bottom half of the kitchen will continue tomorrow with the top half. The worse room will be done then. Hopefully.

I clean up as and when it needs doing. My appliances are all integrated, so that's OK. We've got laminate flooring in the lounge/dining room, as well as the 2 spare bedrooms. Tiles on the kitchen floor, lino in the bathroom, so they're all easy to clean. The only carpet we've got is my bedroom, and obviously the stairs, hall and landing.

Not Spring cleaning, but a few weeks ago did change the curtains and bedding in our room from the winter one (dark wine/burgundy) to a light fresh green.

Not extravagant, as I have had both sets for yonks.

Gives the room a whole new look, without the hassle of decorating!

SalsaQueen we have done away with carpet on the stairs and landing! Painted floors (yes, even the stairs) with a rug on the landing.

Only 2 rooms left with carpet, our room & the "guest" (spare room/dumping ground) and they will soon be changed!

Recently did the third bedroom, which has no bed in it, but a 6ft desk, bookshelves etc, used entirely as a home office. Has a painted floor and a rug, looks good.

phoenix What colour are your floors? I'd much prefer what you've done than carpet.

I don’t spring clean, just do what I notice needs doing as I go along. Every now and then look a bit more closely at things and think I must get round to it... but never do. I work on the assumption that if it all looks tidyish then no one including me will ever notice if it needs a clean

We used Ronseal floor paint. It's incredibly tough, we had to move several bits of furniture both up and down the (painted) stairs, I was sure they would end up scuffed or chipped, but no, not a mark!

It comes in a range of colours, we went for cream, (safe colour, some might say boring!) With a richly coloured runner on the landing, and a large rug in the same design in the home office.

The actual floor surface on the landing and in the office was that sort of green chipboard stuff (house built in 2005) we used a quick coat of something from the Zinsser range (as recommended by our odd job/decorator chap, can check which one) then 2 costs of the floor paint.

Very happy with how it looks, will be doing the same in the 2 remaining bedrooms.

You can find rugs in so many different styles, and reasonably priced (the runner was under £30, the large rug was about £40) so as far as I'm concerned, painted floors plus rugs is not only low maintenance, but you can change your decor without the expense and hassle of new carpets!

Dust is a protective covering for furniture ?

Cleaning your windows let's sunlight in, which fades and weakens your soft furnishings.

You have not "not made your bed" you have left it to air.

The layer that may have built up inside your oven, is actually insulation, and saves energy (both of the gas/electricity type, as well as that which might be used in cleaning the damn thing)

Cleaner gave upstairs a good going over yesterday. She will tackle downstairs next time.
I had the oven professionally cleaned about 6 months ago and it isn't over-used as I don't do roasts, so it should last another twelve years!
