New Carpet and Decorating - which way round?

Definitely paint first, then you have a pristine room ready to have the carpet laid.

We've just done our bedrooms. Did the decorating and all the mucky type of work first, then the finishing touch was the new carpets - looks fab !

Definitely paint first....then carpets....the other way round would is just asking for trouble. Also until all the walls are done you can get the carpet colour so wrong.....what looks a light beige against one colour wall can look like something quite different against another.

Skirting and door/window frames, especially if using gloss. Emulsion walls then finally carpet.

Best to lift old carpet first, then paint, then lay new carpet

I cut away about four - six inches of carpet to expose the whole depth of the skirting board then wash it down before painting a few days later. I do two coats (with a couple of days between) on the woodwork then deal with the walls and ceiling. By the time you are ready to have the new carpet laid the skirting boards are thoroughly dry and you get a great finish.
Leaving the old carpet down makes life more comfortable during the upheaval.

When we had our hall stairs and landing decorated, we indicated that we would get the carpet removed first, but the decorators said No, leave it down. They cut away the edges so they could paint the skirting boards and stair edges, but it left the floors more usable meanwhile, as we did not need to worry about the grippers. Then when it was all done we had the new carpet laid.

I’ve just had my bedroom redecorated as the others say paint first then lay new carpets. My new carpet is being laid Thursday and new wardrobes and chests drawers on Friday. I’m excited to see the finished article ?

Paint first, then emulsion, as that can be wiped off a painted surface, and carpet last.

Paint first, think about the problem you would have when painting skirting board with a carpet down, you have to be so careful.
Also there will be sanding to do, can be dusty not good on a new carpet.

Paint first, leave at least a week between gloss paining on skirting and having new carpet laid. Gloss paint takes a while to harden as well as dry and you don't want carpet fitter chipping the paint.

Definitely paint first and then think about the carpet to avoid stains of the paints.
