Benefits Black Hole!

My DS is on a low income, minimum wage for just over 20 hours a week. OH and I have been trying to find out what benefits he would be eligible for. We've tried the DirectGov site and it appears that if he works under 16 hours a week he can get Income Support and if he works over 30 hours he can get Working Tax Credit....but in between these hours he gets zero help. He is living in our spare room (temporarily, fingers crossed, following the breakdown of his relationship). Surely there must be something we've missed....confused

That seems very unfair lucid . Have you tried phoning the local Benefits office for advice?

My ex sil works 20 hours a week and is in the same boat. He reckons he is about £300 a month worse off than if he was entirely on benefits because of a low monthly income (about £700 a month) and high travelling costs.
