Hello fellow Brightonians, Hovians, and all Gransnetters from anywhere else across East Sussex (and West Sussex for that matter!)

I'm Anna, and I'm the editor of the Brighton & Hove Local site. Now that we've 'officially' launched our Local sites nationwide, we're very keen to start arranging local meet-ups. To get the ball rolling, I'm planning a regular Tuesday coffee morning on the third Tuesday of each month. I have a couple of ideas for venues, and we could chose a different one each month, but I am open to suggestions too.

But the most important element is you grin Without other Gransnetters, I will be sitting there drinking my lovely coffee on my own. Please join me, and let me know that you're coming along by replying here.

The first one will be in May, so that is May 21st. Shall we say 11am? Venue to be agreed sometime soon!

Hello for the first time. I've recently moved to this lovely part of the country, and would love the opportunity to meet and chat with others.
Thanks for the announcement, and I look forward to hearing the venue details.

Please can the meeting places be wheelchair accessible? I use an electric wheelchair and can't do any steps. Thanks!

Wayfinder Mon 15-Apr-13 14:38:18

Hi Tizzysmith Lovely to hear from you smile Where have you moved to in Sussex? As someone who has spent a lifetime moving around, I know exactly what it's like.
Hi Woodie Great to hear from you too. I will do a bit of a search for wheelchair-friendly venues, but do you have any suggestions yourself?

Tizzysmith Mon 15-Apr-13 15:15:54

I moved to Hove last August, so look forward to a full summer of sunshine and frequent beach trips as part of the new lifestyle (hopefully!). I'm so pleased to have come across Gransnet just by chance in the local paper and look forward to participating. Grans of the world unite!

Hi Wayfinder

I live in Southwick so am not very familiar with places in Brighton and Hove, except the Marina, which is pretty accessible and has free parking, too.

Wayfinder Mon 15-Apr-13 23:51:44

I seriously cannot believe the first sentence of the article in The Argus! Hairnets??? What???
I've started a new forum thread because the image of grandparents in the press really needs a kick up the @r$*
Do you agree? Please do add a comment to the thread if you have an opinion on this:

Anyway, back to coffee:
Tizzysmith welcome to Hove - the best possible place to live smile

Woodie I hadn't thought about the Marina, but you're right, parking is good.

I feel a few exploratory coffees coming up by way of research wink

Hello Wayfinder it will be good to meet fellow Gransnetters? is that a word, hairnets, what are they, do people still wear them.. anyway look forward to meeting everyone on the 21st.

Wayfinder Tue 16-Apr-13 13:36:09

Hi bnhippy Yes, hairnet is a word, but not one in the vocabulary of any gran/nan (or grand-dad) I know wink

Wayfinder Wed 01-May-13 20:29:00

Hello ladies smile
Purely for research purposes, I have been drinking far too more coffee in various locations over the last week.
I would like to suggest Sunshine Cafe in Hove for our meet up.
It's bright and airy, and has plenty of comfy armchairs to recline in while we chat over coffee and cake wink
They also have a small second-hand book stall, so we can have a browse too!

I'm happy with that. Looks just right for a first time venue. See you all there.
Really looking forward to putting faces to nameses!

Wayfinder Wed 08-May-13 23:25:00

That's great Tizzysmith! See you there smile

Hi from Gransnet Conwy I am just wishing I lived nearer to join your coffee and cake get to gether. However thought it would be nice to take a trip to here to say hello from (this morning anyway) a rainy Llandudno in Conwy. Maybe you could pop over to see me at Conwy forum for wine cupcake or just a chat smile

bnhippy Wed 15-May-13 10:34:04

Venue sounds good, never been there before so will look forward to it and
to meet everyone else.

bnhippy Wed 15-May-13 10:35:49

Wayfinder Wed 15-May-13 22:44:51

Look forward to meeting you.

Wayfinder Tue 21-May-13 15:35:16

Hello Tizzysmith and bnhippy. It was lovely to meet you this morning, and to put faces and real names to forum names smile
A select group indeed, but I'm sure we will grow, over time.
Here's to the next one: 3rd Tuesday of June is 18th - hope that suits everyone.

Hi woodie, hope you'll be able to join us next time (Sunshine Cafe does have ramped access, and there's a disabled parking space right outside if needed).

Also hoping a few more local gransnetters will have popped by here by then and hopefully feel happy to join us too.

bnhippy Tue 21-May-13 18:26:00

Hello Wayfinder and Tizzysmith. It was lovely to meet you both today in the lovely Sunshine Cafe, a good venue and somewhere I will be happy
to visit again.

As you say Wayfinder a select group, so heres hoping some more Gransnetters take the plunge on the 18th June and come and say

Hello .
smile

Tizzysmith Wed 22-May-13 17:38:30

Hi Wayfinder and bnhippy.
It was great meeting you both, and in such a pleasant little cafe.
Let's hope more grans join us next time. It was interesting talking about the different parts of Brighton we live in and know and how we can spread the word about Gransnet. It felt as if we knew each other already....which we sort of do, don't we?
See you on June 18th.

Wayfinder Wed 22-May-13 18:04:25

That's the great thing about the local forums I think. You do get to know each other in a way, and have a frame of reference already in place when you meet.
If we all spread the word when we can, then maybe we can encourage more
Gransnetters to join us for a relaxed and friendly coffee morning smile

woodie Wed 22-May-13 19:00:10

I'm sorry I didn't make it in the end. I do worry about parking as I have to make sure there is plenty of space behind my car to get my electric wheelchair unloaded. I will try to go to the next meeting and hope that the disabled bay is free. However, if I can't park anywhere suitable I will have to return home.

Wayfinder Thu 23-May-13 23:10:30

Hi woodie, that's understandable. I didn't notice how the bay was located in relation to other parking spaces. If I get a chance, I'll check it out and let you know smile

woodie Mon 27-May-13 18:38:01

Thank you, Wayfinder.

woodie Thu 20-Jun-13 18:34:52

Can't make the next meeting, and I've decided to drop out of the group. But thanks anyway for initially finding an accessible cafe. Good luck to the group.
