Campbell Robb, the chief executive of Shelter, said: "Our shocking findings have uncovered the shameful conditions homeless children will be living in this Christmas. Parents and children sharing beds, children forced to eat on the floor and being threatened with violence in the place they live. This shouldn't be happening in 21st-century Britain."

We are not all in a position to give our children and grandchildren a permanent home with us and with my local area losing major employers hand over fist I fear the future for our grandchildren is going to be even tougher than we found it during the boom and busts of the 70's, 80's and 90's - somehow the ongoing financial and social crises seem to be biting ever deeper.
