hi all - subject to weather, I have had a few people email me about a potential meet up in the New Year - are you interested? February has been suggested as a good month to allow people to get over the festivities at Christmas and New Year, Twelfth Night and Burns Night celebrations and I have already had a couple of offers of potential suitable initial venues where we can get together informally - one in Corsham and the other in Combe Down. What are your thoughts? Any preference for day of the week? (My own preference is a weekday as my weekends tend to be very busy catching up with myself and family!). And of course any dates that are not suited?(anyone flying off out to warmer climates?)
I was thinking towards the end of the month when hopefully the weather starts to improve - perhaps week commencing 17th?
If you are 'up for it' let me know either here on the forum or by email to [email protected]

Hi, I live a mile and a half outside Bath, and I'd be interested in meeting up. A weekday would probably be best for me. I don't have any plans for the end of February.

hi all
OK, well the end of January is looming and February is not far away - can I ask how many people want a meet up at the end of February please? I think for the initial meet up we need to find a place where people can get to easily, can park (if driving) with no problem/cost implications and as such I am happy to offer my workplace which is a sheltered housing scheme in Combe Down Bath - its on the number 1 bus route, we have loads of free parking, you dont have to go right into the city and I can provide refreshments in our communal lounge - some of the residents most of whom are grandparents might also be interested in joining us too.
How does that sound? Please let me have your thoughts.....I will be looking at a weekday date when the room is available rather than weekend.
Thank you - Dee

Hi. Week days are fine for me.

Maniac Thu 23-Jan-14 16:55:34

I can get to Bath Spa station easily from Nailsea & Backwell .Where would I get the No 1 bus? I walk with a stick and am not very good with hills or walking long distances.

Wallygrom Wed 05-Feb-14 20:01:07

Maniac - you can get the number 1 bus from the bus station which is just over the road from Bath Spa train station and its about a 15 minutes bus ride.
Here is a link to the bus timetable and you would need to go from the bus station to Combe Down, Rockhall Lane --
www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/bristol_bath/journey_planning/timetables/timetable.php?day=1&source_id=2&service=1&routeid=9201191&operator=3&source=sp

Its then less than 5 mins walk a short way (20 yds) down a hill.

OK, well I am going to provisionally book a date for Wednesday 26th February at 10.30-12.30 (so any time between for those who can get here perhaps a little later), with the address being Rockhall House, Rockhall Lane, Combe Down, Bath BA2 5JF. I hope this is ok with everyone but given the current weather, and long term forecast I feel it would be better to leave it until the end of the month.

This address is a sheltered housing scheme and we will use the common room, however I will also open this coffee morning up for residents (all 60yrs+) who may also wish to attend and meet new people and find out about Gransnet.

Could I also suggest that just in case anything happens weather wise, or I go sick unexpectedly, as this is a private location and you wont be able to access it without me being present, you give me a call before setting off just to confirm, on 01225-833008 - I am usually in to work by 8.30am

Any queries? Please dont hesitate to come back me on here or give me a call!!
Thanks - Dee Griffiths -

Sorry. I missed this date. I haven't looked for a little while as my B and B has been busy. When do you think the next meetup will be?

Wallygrom Thu 27-Feb-14 19:16:58

Not sure Lyndie - probably not until May due to various commitments that I have between now and then, however there is nothing stopping anyone else arranging one in the meantime and putting on here and our FB page to see what sort of response they get and to go ahead and plan one. If you fancy one in-between please feel free to start a thread and see what response you get - to be honest only Maniac and her friend came but you may have more success! smile

I and my friend (not yet on GN )had a very good time in Bath with Wallygrom
A small select company- but well worth the journey.Lovely cake, cookies and coffee provided. Thanks Wally.Later had a very tasty lunch nearby at 'Darlings Deli'.
I was very impressed with the facilities and sheltered accommodation/care packages provided at Rockhall Hse.Wally is very knowledgeable and has won an award in this area.
I would be more than happy to meet again at this location -hopefully with more of the GNs from Bath area. Where are you all?

Wallygrom Sun 02-Mar-14 06:59:14

Thanks Maniac - fab to meet you both and so glad you liked the Deli for lunch! Next time, hopefully we will have more internal people about too and will give you a tour of the scheme and the extensive gardens which are all newly re-modelled to make accessibility better for residents and visitors. We might even get to see deer out there! Shame other Gransnetters from Bath didn't attend ....maybe next time ...

Lyndie Tue 04-Mar-14 17:42:34

I am happy for grans to come to me in corsham. If anyone is interested.

Wallygrom Wed 05-Mar-14 20:49:46

Here is an offer from Lyndie that you might like to take up - perhaps you can suggest a date Lyndie and provide info relating to public transport near you - is there a station or regular bus service? That seems to be an issue for some people so worth bearing in mind for meet ups.
Thanks-Dee

Lyndie Fri 28-Mar-14 18:09:57

Hi Dee. Unfortunately a car is necessary. I am rural although just a mile from Corsham where the bus stops. Date. I was thinking week commencing 7th April if anyone is interested.

Oldgreymare Sat 26-Apr-14 13:19:14

How did I miss this, and Maniac there too, will try to be 'on the ball' next time!

Wallygrom Sat 26-Apr-14 14:27:15

Sadly due to other commitments I will be unable to hold a meet up back on scheme until end of June - as soon as I have a date I will post it here for you (hopefully within the next few weeks), however, there is nothing stopping any Gransnetter arranging a meet up and I am sure this would be very welcome by other members. Please do post something on here if you would be willing to arrange something - perhaps centrally in the city centre might be a good idea so that everyone can access it a bit easier perhaps?
Also dont forget we have a facebook page which any meet up details can also be posted onto!

Thanks all smile

Actually June in central Bath sounds good, May is rapidly filling up!
Any takers?
