I'm the new editor for Gransnet Newcastle and just thought I'd come and introduce myself and say Hi!

I've started adding listings but feel free to add any events/businesses/activities that you know of to share with our local gransnetters.

I'm also the editor of Mumsnet Local, so if you are looking for events to do with grandchildren over the summer holidays, pop across and have a look for ideas.

Hopefully I'll get to meet some of you in the next coming months at meet ups. In fact, I'm about to organise our inaugural Gransnet Newcastle meet up, so keep and eye out for details and come and join us. smile

Hi
Just browsing around here ...Does no one use the forums anymore?
I'm from Northumberland but just over the border from Tyne & Wear
Would love to hear from someone.

hi Eileen - I spent the first 25 years of my life in either Northumberland or Tyneside, and another 10 years in the '90s. So I still regard myself as a Geordie. I sometimes ring the DWP at Longbenton just to hear the Geordie accent.
But we're living abroad at the moment,so I can't really join in with any meetings. Last time I was up there was 2011. Only family left there is a cousin in Otterburn.
If and when we return I would like to go back to the NE coast.
Where do you live?

Hi Eileen, Im a Geordie to, living just north of Newcastle. I love the wild north east coast and spent hours walking or driving through it. I once worked at the DWP in Benton and my accent was a hazard on the phone.
'By heck, ahm, a broad Geordie, whey aye man'. lol

Hello. Is there anyone there? I have just joined Gransnet and am looking for other members in the area. I live in Northumberland but near Newcastle.

Hello - I have lived in Newcastle for a long time and find Gransnet a wonderful source of information, comfort and guidance when needed! I am a long distance grandparent and find it very hard indeed not being a regular part of their lives as they live so far away. We do try and get 'over the pond' 2 or 3 times a year but it is so expensive to fly there. I would love to meet up if local meetings are held, especially if there are other long distance grandmas around!

Hi I'm in Newcastle too- there was someone in the past who said they were going to be editor and it came to nothing. I see the notice still says "we are looking for..." so welcome Winnie if you really are our new editor!

Hi everyone this is the first time I've posted, although I love reading all the threads. I'm from north Tyneside and would love to find out about any meetings etc. I live alone and it can be quite lonely. Thanks everyone
