Yorkshire born & bred

Yes both DH and I are but are currently exiled on the south coast. I was born in Holmfirth and DH in Halifax and we only left the north when we retired, to be near our DC and DGC. Still feel as if I haven't taken root here though and do get yearnings for Yorkshire.

I'm a Yorkshire lass too Madwoman born in Donny, lived in Bridlington for a time then moved to Hull. Now living in France but if I go back to UK it would be Yorkshire again.

Love the area around Holmfirth Gagagran although it's many years since I visited. Enjoyed looking round Piece Hall as well.

Also Yorkshire though born in Lancashire. I was at the piece hall yesterday having a very cold picnic with my daughter and family. I love wandering the hills and moors around my little town.

Yorkshire born then at 20 moved to Lancashire then Newcastle, South Yorkshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Lancashire, North Yorkshire,Hampshire and back to Yorkshire?

I've lived in West Yorkshire for 44 years, (although still a soft southerner, originally from London) and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Me too! Born in North Yorkshire and spent my whole life here except for 3 years in Cardiff at University.
There was a GN meet up in York fairly regularly before Covid. Hope some of the current Yorkshire residents will be able to join us when we resume.

I’ve lived in West Yorks all my life. Couldn’t live anywhere else now, although we do love to holiday in Devon and Cornwall but it’s always nice to come home.

I’m also in West Yorkshire. Live near a hill where there is no castle, but called Castle Hill! Wonderful far reaching views.

Hull born and bred although now posh cos I live in the East Riding. I love Hull. It's a totally under rated city and doesn't deserve it's bad reputation.

DH is from Bradford so we go over to West Yorkshire a lot. (Pre Covid). I love West Yorks too but I find the language barrier difficult at times. I can't tell you the shock I got the first time I asked for a toasted teacake and got a toasted breadcake. Mind you DH has the same problem in Hull. He asked for fish, chips and a teacake. The lady tried to send him over the road to the cake shop .

I've introduced him chip salt with chips and mint sauce on his fried fish He's introduced me to warm pork pie and peas with mint sauce.

My favourite place is Haworth Waterfalls (it's where DH proposed). I also love the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, Shibden Hall (Halifax), Haworth, Shipley Glen, Baildon Moor....oh the list is endless. If you've never been to West Yorkshire you really should visit. You'll be surprised. Equally if you've never visited Hull and East Yorkshire book yourself in for a long weekend or even a couple of weeks. You'll be glad you did.

I was born in the Holme Valley, though we moved over to Meltham when I was six.
I left both that area and Yorkshire when I was 18, but still love being back up there when I visit my mum, and definitely still consider myself a Yorkshire lass.

I did my nurse training in Hull vampirequeen and a pre nursing course at the college in Queen's Gardens. So long ago now.

My closest encounter with Yorkshire were my school holidays spent with cousins in Riddlesden/ Keighley.

Well said VQ I was born and bred East Riding but have now been in Cornwall for many years owing to DH's Royal Navy career. We have really missed our visits back to EY this past year and have lots of walks and days out planned for when we can getup there.

Born in Hamburg, but spent my childhood in Hull and Thirsk. Moved to York with ex, both children born in Yorkshire. Moved south in '77 but look on Yorkshire as my second home.

Just the mention of Bradford brings back happy memories - in winter, my dad used to take me and my brother over there (from Huddersfield) nearly every Saturday to go skating. Happy days ☺

I live near Bedale, but just over the border into Richmondshire. We're now in Tier 3 whereas yesterday it was Tier 2. We went out to our local pub to eat last night while we could; they can only do takeaways now. Delicious food, but I can no longer cope with a big evening meal! And it's put back two of the surplus Christmas pounds...
