...let a bonus engineer walk into one of their branches and fit an extra bit to their computers, thereby enabling a bunch of crooks to steal a million pounds (from customers' accounts!)?!

Banks appear to have some of the worst security of any business. Also, they try to keep stories about fraud and theft out of the media to prevent people from losing confidence. What about getting a grip instead?

absent Like you, I've also heard that the majority of incidents of fraud are kept quiet by the banks. I've already lost confidence in the banking, in fact in the whole economic, system.

That explains why bankers get such massive bonuses - they get bonus engineers to fix the computers.
