Prince William.....

We've just been watching this on the News. Good for him.

The family will be living on the Sandringham Estate which is a long way from Cambridge Airport so I wonder whether he'll commute or stay in Cambridge when he's on duty.

Seems like an ideal set-up, in that horrid modern parlance....its a 'win, win' situation. Hope he enjoys the challenge!

I believe that he is donating his salary to the air ambulance fund.

It wasn't long ago he was attending a course in agriculture in Cambridge. I thought he was going to become a farmer??..

Culag The course in agriculture was because he will one day inherit the Duchy of Cornwall.

Don't know why he did it in Cambridge though.

That boy loves flying helicopters! The agriculture will come in handy when he inherits all the Duchy Organics from Prince Charles.

Had a front-seat view from my office window when, a couple of months ago, I watched first the local air ambulance and then the RAF rescue team assist in taking an injured lady to hospital. The skill, courage and commitment of those people was driven home that day - I wasn't the only one to shed a tear when the poor victim was finally winched away to safety.

Our "Kings and Queens in Waiting" have, in recent times, given of their time and skill to serving others. Good to hear that William will continue in this service in a new and imaginative role.

Good for you Prince William doing a worthwhile job while flying the helicopters that we all know you love doing is just great.

I hope when he inherits the Duchy of Cornwall and Ducky Duchy Organics, he doesn't also inherit his father's dislike of modern science.

I shall give him a cheery wave next time I see the air ambulance.

Here in rural North Devon we have often seen the air ambulance deployed, it is a vital service.

Does anyone else harbour a sneaky feeling that Charles will never be King? At times he seems far to politically involved to be able to assume the role of what should be an a-political monarch.

I wouldn't be in the least surprised to see William as the next King.

I suppose it depends on how much longer the Queen lives. I can't see Charles passing the crown down to William unless he's old and infirm.

It seems a bit tame for him. And Cambridgeshire is n't exactly mountainous.

That Sandingham estate looks a bit bleak too.

There are a lot of road accidents though, jingle and Addenbrookes Hospital serves a huge area. They rely very heavily on the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

And the traffic is horrendous during busy times. I see the air ambulance regularly.

Yes. Not much different than an ambulance driver. Valuable as they are.

jingl not entirely sure I can agree with you re. Charles being a great King, it's a role that often requires great diplomacy, which can also be defined as keeping ones mouth shut on occasions, perhaps Charles may not be able to do that with regard to certain issues/policies.

Usual disclaimer: Could be wrong, often am.

PS Meant to add, when it comes to it, Charles may even decide that certain aspects of the role (mainly those mentioned above) don't suit him, and that he may be better able to achieve his goals or actively promote them from a different role?

William might not want the role until his father dies. He has a young child and obviously likes to live a fairly normal life whenever possible.

I also think Charles will be a good King.

Let's not write off the Queen yet. Her mother lived to a grand old age. I hate it when the newspapers say 'the future king' talking about Prince George. There's many a slip....
