Classic!

Luckygirl Sat 11-Mar-17 11:07:42

Brilliant! One of them looks as though she is puffing on a fag.

My first school was in a CofE convent and one nun used to hide behind a tree for a puff!

Come on peeps!
(Too much grouching on GN this lovely morning.)
Enjoy a wee smile smile

SueDonim Sat 11-Mar-17 12:36:52

I love the one at the end, busy with her knitting!

Grannybags Sat 11-Mar-17 12:41:35

That's brilliant! Thanks for giving us something to smile about today MawBroon smile

I cannot think of a harder vocation . The photograph was amusing

Tippy22 Sat 11-Mar-17 13:08:28

And what about the man being interviewed on the BBC and his children coming in behind him. That made me laugh out loud after a few stressful days.

kittylester Sat 11-Mar-17 13:22:40

I loved that too Tippy especially his wife doing a handbrake turn while trying not to be seen on TV. grin

kittylester Sat 11-Mar-17 13:29:18

www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQUcDxC5FN0 this is it!

Luckygirl Sat 11-Mar-17 13:31:24

But he did not treat his child very kindly.

thatbags Sat 11-Mar-17 13:35:19

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one who presumed she was his wife and the children's mother. Elsewhere people seemed to assume she was a nanny.

He wasn't unkind to the child. He gave it a firm signal that it shouldn't be there and that's all.

thatbags Sat 11-Mar-17 13:38:39

I wonder what the significance of the white veil that some of the nuns are wearing is?

Elegran Sat 11-Mar-17 13:45:16

He was very gentle with the child - just reached back and stopped her coming any closer. I thought that was a harassed mother too. What lovely children - a sparky little 'un in the walker, rushing in after big sister to get in on the act. There's no show without Mr Punch!

Elegran Sat 11-Mar-17 13:45:49

Are the nuns in white veils a nursing order?

thatbags Sat 11-Mar-17 16:27:38

It's his wife.

Galen Sat 11-Mar-17 17:15:35

I think the ones in white are postulants. I.e. They haven't taken their final vows

Anniebach Sat 11-Mar-17 17:17:10

They are nuns of the Carmalite order which is an enclosed order so would not be nurses. Probably the nuns in ehite veils are novices

Rinouchka Sat 11-Mar-17 18:20:13

Speaking of nuns, here is a gaggle( a clutch, a swarm?) of them. I took this photo while waiting to cross the road in Milan. The noise was unbelievable! Looks as if one single friar is trying to restrain them.

grannypiper Sun 12-Mar-17 07:22:23

fantastic

DanniRae Sun 12-Mar-17 08:19:54

Not the best shop for the nuns to be outside of if the first floor window displays are any thing to go by! blush

inishowen Sun 12-Mar-17 09:45:46

We went on holiday to Toronto some years ago. There was some sort of catholic convention. Our hotel was full of priests and nuns. It was surreal as there was a sea of black in the lobby. We felt quite out of place.

JackyB Sun 12-Mar-17 10:10:23

There is a Carmelite convent near us. I have never seen one of the sisters out on the streets. (Although I don't know what their habit looks like)

The nuns in our parish (here in Germany) belong to a local order, and have very conservative dress - similar to the ones in the picture. In fact, in Germany, I think all nuns still wear full-length dress and head coverings. Nowadays, the ones at home in Newmarket wear knee-length navy dresses and coats and don't always cover their heads.

Jalima Sun 12-Mar-17 10:13:41

Thank you for sharing that MawBroon grin
Is that a ciggie one is puffing on?

(If there's a lot of grouching today perhaps I'll switch off and do some gardening!)

The children bursting in on the tv interview was very funny and mother looked panic-stricken, then crawling backwards out of the room grin

Marieeliz Sun 12-Mar-17 12:13:18

One also looking as though she is drinking a Costa coffee.

I thought is was the Nanny as well. The children looked very fair.

goldengirl Sun 12-Mar-17 12:31:39

I thought the YouTube clip with the children was hilarious. The first child coming in made me think there but for the grace of God but then the baby hurtled in! The poor mother I presume didn't think she could be seen. It's one of the best interviews I've watched in ages and I applaud the Dad for keeping on keeping on!
