By far the biggest reason for not voting Tory for me is not the huge issues (Brexit etc.) but the fact that they do not listen and never have.
Why do they not listen to the teachers who are telling them loud and clear that the SATs and the targets are putting pupils under a pressure that is damaging their mental health; that teachers are ground down by the reductive rules that demand assessment at every turn; that they are scratching around for every penny for pens, paper towels, bog rolls?
Why do they not listen to the doctors and nurses who are telling them that they are under unbearable pressure; that they are having to cut corners all the time; that patients are sitting on wards waiting for surgery which is postponed day after day because of emergencies; that young doctors are looking to employment abroad?
Why do they not listen to the social workers and LA social services departments who are trying to tell them that the social care system cannot keep up with the demand; that elderly people are being placed in low standard homes if they are LA funded; that those with mental health problems are adrift in the community with no support?
All we get are platitudes; policies that set up unnecessary free schools; more and more fragmentation through "out-sourcing"; and financial statistics that tell us how much money they have spent on these services - but no amount of money will help if it is poured into systems that do not work because they are based on political dogma, not on LISTENING to those who know of what they speak - the professionals.
To think that London, or anywhere else for that matter, does not belong to any one demographic
