For anyone who doubts the written factual evidence of the horrendous effects of the Tory cuts watch this video. It is heart rending to see Alex's daily life, in our very rich country. www.theguardian.com/society/commentisfree/video/2017/may/30/living-with-disabilities-youre-treated-worse-than-a-farm-animal-video
I hope the link works, but if it doesn't you can find it by searching for Guardian videos Alex

I am surprised that no one appears to have looked at this, but Phoenix's pointless thread has had many responses.

annsixty Wed 31-May-17 10:33:03

That's life on GN .

minesaprosecco Wed 31-May-17 10:37:10

I know, ann, and I'm not intending to dictate what the site should be like. Can't help feeling sad though that people aren't looking this video. Maybe I should insert it into one of the other threads.

Disgraceful in modern Britain - the fifth richest country in the world. This video clip is painful to watch but it needs to be seen. I will share it on Facebook and Twitter.

mostlyharmless Wed 31-May-17 10:44:44

Thank you minesaprosecco for putting it on here.

Indinana Wed 31-May-17 11:02:22

Crying here. Thank you minesaprosecco for sharing this. This video needs to be shown in every workplace, every school, every big screen in public places. People need to KNOW.

The welfare gap between young and old is set to widen, whoever wins the next election

goldengirl Wed 31-May-17 11:19:20

I've just shared it on Twitter. It's heartbreaking. Why isn't she received proper help and support - especially as she's having treatment. Buck passing by the authorities?

ninathenana Wed 31-May-17 11:25:05

People may have watched and not posted a response.
I admit to usually avoiding anything that mentions politics in the title. As in 'news and politics' forum. I just can't be bothered with all the argy bargy

minesaprosecco Wed 31-May-17 12:45:38

But there shouldn't be any argy bargy about this,*nina*. It should be shared far and wide. There may be complex reasons about why Alex does not get the support she needs, but the fundamental reason is cuts to services due to the ideology of this Government. No argument.

whitewave Wed 31-May-17 13:06:36

I always note that when something like the above video is shown - the rightwingers are loud in their silence

ninathenana Wed 31-May-17 13:24:54

Sorry minesaprosecco I'm not disputing the importance of the link or saying there will/should be argy bargy about this topic.
What I meant was I don't usually open a thread on the News & Politics forum because some posters get very het up about which party is right. I rest my case.

merlotgran Wed 31-May-17 13:30:13

phoenix's pointless thread??

hmm

J52 Wed 31-May-17 13:46:46

Saddened and shocked, but not surprised. This is the thin edge of the wedge, in the large cities of the US the next phase is much in evidence - many decent people with no option but to beg on the streets as there is little or no welfare support.

M0nica Wed 31-May-17 18:26:43

I doubt a change of government will make it any better- or worse.

paddyann Wed 31-May-17 23:48:09

i THINK YOU ARE WRONG MOnica a change of government could see a huge difference to how the sick and disabled are treated. Here there would be nurses and care workers visiting every day FREE personal care where its needed. All it takes is a change in spending habits ,less bombs on Syria etc and more money where its NEEDED here cancel Trident and spend on ppeople ,education and the NHS and for gods sake put the folk in need at the top of the list instead of treating them as scroungers .

Jalima1108 Wed 31-May-17 23:53:38

I think the reason could be that this is also on another thread minesap so this is a duplicate thread.

The other one ordered Conservative voters not to look at it I think, so if there is no response that is why.

Jalima1108 Wed 31-May-17 23:57:40

I'm not intending to dictate what the site should be like
Well, it sounds as if you are if you accuse a light-hearted thread of being pointless.

In fact, there are threads on all kinds of subjects and Gransnet is not just a Political Forum. If you want an exclusively political forum there must be other ones out there.

M0nica Thu 01-Jun-17 00:06:33

....all this and heaven to!

paddyann Thu 01-Jun-17 10:35:29

not at all just a Scottish government who looks after PEOPLE first.I know they're not perfect but NO government is and after all they are under budget restraints but OUR NHS has 96% patient satisfaction and has had the best figures for being within the 4 hour limit at A and E for EVERY month of the last 24 ,the shortage oof housing is being addddressed and we have build tens of thousands more in the time in power than LABOUR did in decades....
