whitewave Sat 03-Mar-18 16:50:11

One of her last tweets

“What is it with political Christians? Theresa May can’t stop lying and now the devout anti-abortion Catholic member for the nineteenth century who makes cash out of abortion pills @jacobreesmogg has told a told a divisive and dangerous lie on a main news programme about jeremycorbyn”

How your writing will be missed

maryeliza54 Sat 03-Mar-18 17:05:34

She was a good role model for our age group - she would have been a great GNer!

Lyndylou Sat 03-Mar-18 17:08:51

I shall miss her Guardian columns too. I was very sad to read today that she had died.

Mamie Sat 03-Mar-18 17:14:58

How sad. We loved her columns and really enjoyed her autobiography as well.

silverlining48 Sat 03-Mar-18 17:40:49

She was a gentle but i ncisive writer, how sad for her treasure.

whitewave Sat 03-Mar-18 17:47:07

Wonder what will happpen to her dogs sad

MaizieD Sat 03-Mar-18 18:26:07

I am truly sad to hear this. It's only a few days since her last column was published. Was it unexpected?

I'm sure that her daughter will take the dogs...

Lyndylou Sat 03-Mar-18 18:27:42

Apparently it was a stroke while she was out walking the dogs.

suzied Sat 03-Mar-18 18:27:58

I remember her writing about looking after her elderly mother. Really amusing.

It was the teenage 'Treasure' that always amused me. I had a DD of similar age (but less 'challenging')

whitewave Sat 03-Mar-18 18:32:29

Thanks maize

Her dogs going to the South of France. That must have been something she had the foresight to arrange.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Sat 03-Mar-18 19:42:31

Oh no. She came into GNHQ once - she was absolutely lovely. I also enjoyed her writing. Sad news

BlueBelle Sat 03-Mar-18 19:49:48

Afraid I ve never heard of her but it’s always sad to lose someone

Lazigirl Sat 03-Mar-18 20:07:19

Oh no! I didn't know until read it here sad. I have followed her in the Guardian for years, she used to write about her daughter "Treasure" as a troublesome teen, and I love her current weekly column. She wrote so wittily about ageing, was passionate about social injustices, a dog lover and proud socialist. I shall miss her tremendously. Thanks for link MaisieD and so glad to see her beloved dogs are going to a friend in the South of France.

SueDonim Sat 03-Mar-18 20:16:16

I didn't think I knew who she was, but I clicked on the link, I realised I do know her. She was sweet and funny and seemed much younger than her years. I can't believe she was 75! How very sad, although she'll be glad to have bypassed the old folks home. smile

Tegan2 Sat 03-Mar-18 20:34:49

We don't have the Guardian but, having just read up on her, I think I've been missing something rather special sad.

whitewave Sat 03-Mar-18 20:53:39

tegan she was a delight!

Never stopped being cross, never lost her socialist credentials. Big family person. Adored her dogs.

etheltbags1 Sat 03-Mar-18 21:06:28

Any pics of her. I read daily mail so dont think i ve heArd of her. She must be nice if she is a dog lover

whitewave Sat 03-Mar-18 21:42:25
