I am troubled by the new leader election, anyone else?

Belgravian Wed 30-May-18 10:40:22

Well I'd rather kill myself than ever bite Labour but what is it that is troubling you?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_Labour_Party_leadership_election,_2018

Who would you like to see replace Careyn Jones?

Belgravian Wed 30-May-18 10:40:46

Vote not bite!

I e never bitten anyone, honest! grin

Anniebach Wed 30-May-18 11:38:15

Only one has declared he will stand

Welsh Labour has 25’000 mrmbers and 76,000 affiliated union members . So grass root members will have little say.

Belgravian Wed 30-May-18 12:08:34

Oh I thought there were two to choose from? Mark Drakeford and Vaughan Gething?

Anniebach Wed 30-May-18 13:12:15

Not closed yet Belgravian , there are several potential runners

maryeliza54 Wed 30-May-18 14:37:29

So why are you troubled ab when nominations haven’t closed yet?

paddyann Wed 30-May-18 14:38:35

nobody right wing enough foor you?

maryeliza54 Wed 30-May-18 15:17:28

And ab you’re wrong about the voting .Welsh Labour still has the electoral college so votes are weighted - one third members, one third trade union members, and one third politicians - utterly amazed you didn’t know that.

nigglynellie Wed 30-May-18 16:59:40

Paddyann. confused

Anniebach Wed 30-May-18 17:12:35

Ignore them niggly x

Jalima1108 Wed 30-May-18 17:19:05

They are trying to change to OMOV I think after the Deputy Leadership contest.

Jalima1108 Wed 30-May-18 17:29:33

Can I ask a question Anniebach

Are affiliated union members who do not reside in Wales eligible to vote in the leadership and deputy leadership elections in Wales, or just members who reside in Wales?

Anniebach Wed 30-May-18 17:30:45

They are trying to before Jalima but oposition from Unite who wants to keep the Electoral College System.

The woman who had the most votes in the female deputy leader election recently , but didn’t win , was a strong supporter of One Member One Vote , has the most votes but loses !

nigglynellie Wed 30-May-18 17:32:00

You're right annie - I will!! ?

Jalima1108 Wed 30-May-18 17:34:10

So can someone who lives outside of Wales become an affiliated member of the Welsh Labour Party through union membership and therefore have a vote?
confused

Anniebach Wed 30-May-18 17:38:54

Jalima, Unions such as Unite have their own Welsh Branch

Grandad1943 Wed 30-May-18 17:43:08

Anniebach, that would be numerous Welsh Branches

Grandad1943 Wed 30-May-18 17:46:02

Unite Branches are trade group dependent and District/Regional based.

Grandad1943 Wed 30-May-18 17:47:32

There is also the Community Branch structure these days

Anniebach Wed 30-May-18 17:52:10

Explains why BBC Wales interviewed THE secretary of Welsh Unite

Belgravian Wed 30-May-18 17:55:29

I'm English but now reside in Wales.

The above replies have been very informative as even though I am a long way right of centre, I find politics very interesting but complicated at times!

Grandad1943 Wed 30-May-18 18:00:10

Anniebach Unite has a Welsh Region which comes under the National Structure with its own Regional Secretary.

As I have stated the Branches are Trade Group Based and have there own National Organizers dependent of the industry they are attached to. Branches are in many ways autonomous with there own funding and Branch officers (Chair person, Branch Secretary) and make many of their own decisions in regards to servicing their branch membership.

Anniebach Wed 30-May-18 18:02:04

It is Belgravian when it comes to the Welsh Assembly.

Hope you are happy living in Wales

Belgravian Wed 30-May-18 18:25:10

Thank you. I love it here in Wales.

Recently visited family London and Essex way and my goodness the noise and the traffic!

Although my son and his partner have moved to Cardiff which is quite busy! I love the architecture and history but not the driving!
