Leslie Grantham who played Dirty Den in EastEnders has died. We will never forget the character he portrayed, and those scenes with Angie. What an actor! RIP.

RIP Lesley Grantham.

At the height of his Eastenders fame, Husband, myself and 2 of our children were followed by 2 ladies all round our local town centre as they were convinced he was 'Dirty Den'. They wouldn't take no for an answer and in the end agreed to 'let him have his privacy'

It still makes us chuckle.

RIP

Not a nice man.

Sorry.

I don't think I can judge him as a man, because I didn't know him. But as an actor, he was the making of EastEnders.
Absolutely riviting, the scenes between Den and Angie.

I didn't know he had murdered a man many years ago, before he was an actor.

I agree the scenes with him and Angie were TV gold.

He did murder a man and if my memory serves me right it was a taxi driver in Germany and he shot him whilst attempting to rob him he got life but I think he only served about 10 years He was also involved in an online sex scandals more recently about 15 odd years ago
So whilst it sad to hear of anyone dying I think Meralot is right when she said he wasn’t that good a bloke

Anniebach Fri 15-Jun-18 15:00:03

He shot a taxi driver when he was nineteen, served his sentence . The sex scandal was masturbating in his dressing room via a web cam , a set up by a Sun reporter, so for the latter I think a stupid man

nanaK54 Fri 15-Jun-18 17:07:16

Gosh - I am beginning to think that I must live under a rock - all of the above scandal had passed me by confused

Auntieflo Fri 15-Jun-18 18:04:59

You and me both nanaK54. ?

So actually he was a nasty man playing a nasty character?
Not such a good actor then, - he was playing his own character? Never saw him acting in anything else.
I didn't know all that other stuff about him.

I remember seeing him in a supermarket in the 1990s. I had gone in to shop. I think he had been asked to open the supermarket and then meet the public and sign autographs.

He was standing around on his own looking lost. Nobody wanted his autograph. I remember thinking "what a sad person".
