Big article and leader in today's Times.
Judges at the European Court have ruled that on grounds of 'privacy' MEPs do not need to justify their expenses.

In addition to their salaries, MEPs are paid €4416 a month in 'general expenditure allowance' "without any obligation to provide invoices, receipts or any accounts on how the money is spent."
In addition to this, they are given a daily tax free 'subsistence allowance' of €313 a day for hotel and living costs when working in Brussels and Strasbourg.

The combined allowances mean that MEPs "can pocket well over €100,000 a year in tax free payments without proving expenditure." That is in addition to their salaries.

I did vote Remain, but while strongly feeling that the EU gravy train needs serious reform.
Evidently it's not going to happen, at least not any time soon.

No wonder Nigel Farage can whizz around and turn up with a bus at the drop of a hat!

That's an incredible sum of money! envy I really object to the fact that we've contributed. How do we raise objections to it? And to whom?

And what do they actually DO for OUR benefit with all this cash???? Do they make us better if we're ill? Do they teach us a new skill? Do they deliver goods to the shops?

Object all you like it won't make any difference! Another good reason to leave this corrupt self serving organisation.

Disgusting they should have to provide receipts etc, to get expenses. We have to have receipts for everything in our business!!!

Witzend
Your a bit late to the party with that info sad
Why do think millions of us voted to leave. We knew what a gravy train it is.
How do you feel about the €115 million a year it costs to move the eu parliament from Brussels to Strasbourg * every month*
That's moving 3/4000 people. Guess how long they are in Strasbourg, 4days
That means that their work places are empty for 317 days a year.
Don't start looking into their pensions if you don't want your blood pressure to rise grin

petitpois
We don't. We are leaving.
