I've changed my mind

...about the Duchess of Sussex, however, I do wish that she'd stop clinging to Harry and he'd stop putting his hand over his jacket as if it's going to fly open any second.
I note that Harry looks leaner and no doubt Meghan has stopped his smoking and drinking habits, which can only be a good thing.
I admit to being very sceptical in the beginning but I think she's slowly settling into her role and will bring another kind of freshness into the monarchy.
Having heard Catherine speak recently, I thought her voice was awful. Words tumbling into one another in places and the accent was weird, not pleasant listening.
Meghan has a different tone, is much less stilted in manner and doesn't tumble her words.
They're both assets to the Royal family and should never be compared as they bring different gifts to the table.
Have your views about Meghan and Harry changed since their marriage?

Yes but the other way round. Meghan's acting skills are being put to good use IMO. Harry trails along behind her like a royal flunkey or security chap.

I agree about her speaking in public though. She is very self assured. As for freshness into the monarchy.....Not sure yet.

Anniebach Mon 25-Feb-19 22:52:16

You have just compared them Gabriella.

I think the same merlot , he looks like a puppy trotting along with her.

Anniebach Mon 25-Feb-19 22:52:54

And he seems to have lost his sense of humour

GabriellaG54 Mon 25-Feb-19 23:09:37

He's a husband and father-to-be, not a Jack-the-lad any more Anniebach
He had to grow up sooner or later and he too is having to play a different role, instead of being in a threesome tagging along with William and Catherine.
Yes, I mentioned the difference between Meghan and Catherine's speech but was not suggesting that either woman change to be more like the other which has been mentioned on other threads.

I agree that tagging along with the Cambridges was bound to end once he married but I do wonder how long it will be before playing second fiddle to his wife starts to grate a bit.

Do you remember President Kennedy's description of himself 'as the man accompanying Mrs Kennedy to Paris'. All the attention was always on his beautiful and glamorous wife.

But President Kennedy knew, as Princes William and Harry do, that on the international stage, they have the clout. It is a pity Prince Charles didn't realise this when he had a young and glamorous wife.

I've changed my mind too.....but in the opposite direction.

I thought the relationship was lovely to begin with but now I think that Meghan should try to fit in a little more. I think the baby shower was the giddy limit for me.

I worry that the marriage will go the way of Prince Andrew's. William, Kate and Harry were doing a good job of gently making the royal family more relevant but I think Meghan will make it too show bizzy and 'flashy'.

Jane10 Tue 26-Feb-19 06:47:26

Meghan blooming well should be better at public speaking than Catherine - she's been doing it professionally for years. That's acting for you!
Catherine would never have expected such a role when growing up. She comes over as a lady. Meghan does not!

RosieLeah Tue 26-Feb-19 06:52:51

My views are still the same. Prince Harry has shown his contempt for his royal status by his choice of bride. I think it was an act of defiance and now he's realising what a big mistake he made. I think Meghan thought she could modernise the royals and bring them down to her level. As for William and Kate...I think they seem very well-suited, she is definitely an asset to the royals but I do think she finds her royal duties rather a chore.

kittylester Tue 26-Feb-19 07:16:48

Rosie, are you suggesting that Harry should have married for duty rather than love? We've seen how that has panned out previously.

Urmstongran Tue 26-Feb-19 07:49:17

I read somewhere that Kate had elocution lessons (nowt wrong with that) but that now she speaks posher than the royals themselves! Could account for how she sounds?

Meghan is a confident speaker and probably a breath of fresh air within the royal circles.

That said I do wish we only had about a third of them (the most relevant) on the taxpayers payroll. I’d be happier with a ‘top 10’!

BlueBelle Tue 26-Feb-19 08:03:03

Oh dear RosieLeah that’s bitchy shown contempt for the Royal family by his choice of bride
He choose who he loved nothing wrong in that shes not a pale English Rose with a plummy voice and a good job too bring a bit of colour and spark into the old family
(The bright ginger beard doesn’t look good though he looks like HenyV111)

Oldwoman70 Tue 26-Feb-19 08:06:53

Rosie - how do you know Harry thinks he has made a mistake? Are you his confidant? We none of us know what any of the RF think.

Harry doesn't "follow her like a puppy", or do you think Meghan should walk 5 paces behind him at all times.

petra Tue 26-Feb-19 08:09:02

No. I thought she was false when she first appeared and still think the same.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 26-Feb-19 08:27:49

I think that the Duchess of Sussex and The Duke seem very happy and very much in love. I wish them a very long happy life together and I hope they enjoy their first baby when it arrives.

sodapop Tue 26-Feb-19 08:50:44

I don't like to indulge in Royal Family bashing because I would hate to have my every move dissected and criticised as they do.
I go along with kittylester's comments, I think the baby shower was a totally inappropriate thing to do. It's early days yet for Meghan though and hopefully that was a final fling before their baby arrives.

Teetime Tue 26-Feb-19 08:53:41

I just have a bad feeling about it.

Gonegirl Tue 26-Feb-19 08:57:28

I think they're both lovely in their own ways. Can't see anything wrong with either of them. Course, I don't actually know them personally. But they both come across well.

Doing a grand job.

Gonegirl Tue 26-Feb-19 08:58:34

And yes, Gabriella. You did compare them. grin

Anniebach Tue 26-Feb-19 08:58:41

Harry had been in love twice before, they walked away.

I think the same as petra.

Gonegirl Tue 26-Feb-19 08:59:30

I'm looking forward to the baby! smile

Gonegirl Tue 26-Feb-19 09:01:40

As for criticising the way Harry holds his jacket, well!!! We all have our own little mannerisms. hmm

megan123 Tue 26-Feb-19 09:21:34

They are a lovely couple. I wish them well in their life together and when their new baby arrives.

Anniebach Tue 26-Feb-19 09:24:22

Harry snapped at the photographers, that’s a first, he loves the camera
