Failing Grayling

Failings by the Ministry of Justice in the part-privatisation of probation services have been “extremely costly” for taxpayers, the National Audit Office (NAO) has said.

A review of Chris Grayling’s Transforming Rehabilitation programme, published on Friday, added that the number of people on short sentences recalled to jail had soared and the termination of contracts with private probation companies would cost at least £171m.

There has been a 2.5% reduction in the proportion of offenders proven to have committed another crime between 2011 and March 2017. However, the number of offences per reoffender has increased by 22%.

How incompetent does a Tory minister have to be to get the sack?

PECS Fri 01-Mar-19 17:14:10

Very, very, very, very, very incompetent!

Framilode Fri 01-Mar-19 17:17:18

If he had any honour whatsoever he would resign.

suzied Fri 01-Mar-19 17:22:53

They probably keep him in office because he makes other ministers look even less useless.

paddyann Fri 01-Mar-19 17:24:31

do ANY of the current government know what they're doing?

GillT57 Fri 01-Mar-19 17:24:38

If he worked for a private company he would be fired, why should the fact that it is taxpayers' money that is being wasted make any difference? The man is an incompetent fool and stands out even in the current parliament of fools, incompetents and liars, and that is quite a feat.

Grayling was transport secretary when a change to rail timetables caused chaos, leading to the cancellation of thousands of services. More than one in 10 Northern and Thameslink trains were cancelled after the introduction of the new timetables on 20 May last year. In an interim report into the debacle, the Office of Road and Rail singled out the train operators Govia Thameslink Railway and Northern, Network Rail and the Department for Transport (DfT) for criticism, saying their mistakes had led to the collapse of services. The rail regulator criticised the DfT for failing to question the industry’s assurances about the risk of disruption.

This on its own should have been reason to sack him.

Urmstongran Fri 01-Mar-19 17:38:44

I think Mrs. May likes him. He is a loyal foot soldier.
But he is pretty useless in whatever department he (mis)manages!

varian Fri 01-Mar-19 17:43:15

His judgement is appalling.

GillT57 Fri 01-Mar-19 17:44:18

His inadequacies are legion; the train timetable as detailed by Varian which caused huge amounts of inconvenience to clients, the farcical cancellation of the rights for prisoners to receive books ( swiftly re-instated by whoever was the next Justice Secretary) and who can forget the wondrous contract for non -existent ferries provided by an unknown and inexperienced consortium. You just couldn't make it up. He needs to be fired, sent back to the back benches, not to the House of Lords. He gave permission for extensive lorry parks in Kent to hold the post Brexit lorries, without even letting the constituency MP know ( a fellow Conservative) and sat on QT and argued with an owner of a freight company who was trying to explain the implications of customs checks, Grayling just flat dismissed the man as being of no consequence. There are a lot in the HoC who I would not even employ to cut my hedge, but he has to be the worst....( he would likely tell me that my hedge didn't exist, or was actually a wall and that I didn't know what I was talking about).

MawBroon Fri 01-Mar-19 17:44:46

What more does he have to do to get the sack?

GillT57 Fri 01-Mar-19 17:48:03

Indeed maw. It must be getting embarassing even for his colleagues now.

EllanVannin Fri 01-Mar-19 18:16:17

Again ! Whichever ministerial department he works in it goes t*ts up. Read about his disastrous career. Useless.

grumppa Fri 01-Mar-19 18:26:10

I am reminded of those two other incompetent twits, Davies who had no idea how to negotiate Brexit, and Johnson, who made us a laughing stock overseas.

petra Fri 01-Mar-19 18:42:13

I think he knows where the bodies are buried wink
Him and Theresa go back a long way.

Urmstongran Fri 01-Mar-19 18:46:19

petra ??

EllanVannin Fri 01-Mar-19 18:56:40

Not a good track record is it paddyann ?

Jabberwok Fri 01-Mar-19 19:03:27

I thought it was Damien Green and T.M who go back a long way?! Perhaps Chris Grayling too! He does seem extraordinarily inefficient!!!!!!!

Mamissimo Fri 01-Mar-19 19:40:55

I’ve met and worked with him......I never saw a glimmer of light behind the eyes. Possibly the dullest man I’ve ever met. I saw no signs of ability or intellect at all and the charisma of a slice of luncheon meat. I think he survives by making the others look better.

varian Fri 01-Mar-19 20:47:00

If you had to make an important decision, you could ask "what would Chris Grayling decide? Then do the opposite.

Chris Grayling voted Leave!!!!

trisher Fri 01-Mar-19 21:30:40

The problem is who can you find who is competent?- Gove messed up Education, Hunt- messed up the NHS. Boris-messed up the Foreign office etc. Mrs May -messed up the Home office and PM. They all stick together and hope no-one notices.

varian Fri 01-Mar-19 21:57:04

What do these incompetents have in common apart from being Tory MPs? They all voted Leave.

varian Fri 01-Mar-19 22:00:51

Apart, of course from TM who was ostensibly a Remainer but has only ever listened to the bonkers brexiters.

varian Mon 04-Mar-19 16:44:00
