What on earth is TM planning on taking to the EU now when she asks for an extension? Will they even grant her one?
Does she had a plan or is it more of the same?

Am trying to have a Brexit-free day for once, but just had to say I love the title of your thread Anja
I’m sure they will grant us an extension - who would want the responsibility of refusing so to do so close to the 29th? As for what her letter will say, I’m not sure that will matter overmuch
It’s hardly the fault of T May that Bercow has pulled a grubby ancient rabbit from his hat at this late stage, but with a week to go it will encourage the EU and our own negotiating side into coming up with something, a short extension is neccessary.
lemongrove that is unfair. She was presenting the same old, same old, yet again to Parliament. It has already been rejected twice and would ckearly have been rejected again. Bercow, who is the most senior figure in the Commons, was doing his job and calling a halt to her abuse of Parliament and wasting time.
She has no plan. Lacking in people skills, no imagination, not a team player.
Maryeliza Preston was saying that unless she actually convinces the EU that an extension will have a purpose they might well not extend. I know that is only speculation but from an informed source.
Is this the best that British politics has to offer?
Apparently so - how embarrassing and depressing is that?!
TM's inflexibility and unwillingness to share decision-making on what is an issue that impacts on everyone has got us in this mess. We need an extension and a new approach.
Very true Lucky ....but I can’t see any signs of a new approach.
Lemon. ‘A grubby ancient rabbit from his hat’ Your post shows no understanding whatsoever about his ruling and the enshrinement of the 1604 ruling in Erskine May. I expect you think the principles enshrined in the Magna Carta being g even more ancient should not underpin our legal system today?
Thom Brooks, Professor of Law and Government at Durham University. writes-
"As a professor of law, I am convinced John Bercow’s Brexit decision is correct
The government should not have been caught by surprise and should have had a better grasp of how to achieve its preferred Brexit beyond simply assuming it could run down the clock"

I think John Bercow was right, you can't keep going to court to see try to get a different result, the HoC exists to scrutinise proposed legislation and they did, and found it wanting, twice. That rule may have been made years ago, but it is still correct.
Professor Meg Russell at the University of London wrote yesterday in a letter to The Times:
"John Bercow's ruling....demonstrates something too often overlooked in British politics: that ultimately parliament, not government, is in control. Parliament isn't simply a creature of government, it has an independent existence - in which context Bercow spoke as its representative."
In other words, he was doing his job.
Theresa May has now proved she is mad. I always suspected it but now she has demonstrated it for all to see and it was not a pretty sight.
This country has a parliamentary democracy and she does not have a majority there for her policies. That's partly why she had two huge defeats on her Withdrawal Agreement.
Instead of getting more MPs on her side to help overcome that issue what does she do? She tells them all off and blames them when it's her own incompetence and delusions that have led us to this pass. It can't be her fault - oh no - nothing to do with her!!!
She's obsessive compulsive about her agreement when all sorts of alternatives are possible but she won't consider them - as evidenced yesterday evening by those who came out of the meeting with her. She'd rather let the country face a no deal than accept that her agreement is flawed.
Even without the Speaker's ruling, it is contemptuous of the two votes already taken in parliament to keep bringing back the same old agreement. She just won't get the message so we're all going to suffer for those MPs who have been naughty!
Lemongrove,
Oh I see the rules of the house apply only if it suits and when it doesn't we should ignore them, that's novel.
I heard on the radio that they had already discussed the possibility that they wouldn't be able to re-present the same plan for a vote. They knew the procedure but had quietly put it to one side hoping it would go through regardless.
I love the title too Sparklefizz
Well I am not sure spabbygirl I regather suspect this is precisely what the EU did with regard to Greece, Ireland and other problems in the past such as Maastricht, keep going back and back and back until we little people voted the way they were supposed to
I was under the impression that the 29th March had been enshrined in law. Surely that makes an extension illegal!!
Just seen Caroline Flint speaking on Sky News channel. She is absolutely right, the hard brexiteers would prefer to leave with no deal, the remainders don’t want to leave at all and will do anything to prevent leaving. May’s deal may well not be perfect because it is a compromise. One would think given the fairly close referendum result, that a compromise would be the ideal deal for everyone, I know both leavers and remainers who have said parliament should vote for it. But that hasn’t happened because of entrenched positions and big egos, much the same as I have frequently observed on brexit threads on Gransnet. Too much of ‘I know best, my way or no way.’ Our parliamentarians have let us down badly, with their sense of entitlement, big egos, and refusal to compromise.
Your title made me laugh out loud - normally I’m just blooming angry at the handling of Brexit - no matter how you voted , so thank you for a good beginning to a Thursday
We all know parliament’s cunning plan. That is to stop the UK from leaving the EU by any means possible.
As Bercow said himself not long ago, rules, protocols etc can be changed, otherwise nothing would ever change.
This is such an important matter, not some piddling vote,
That Bercow was well aware of what he was doing.
However, in the end he has done May a favour I think, as this will contentrate minds and hopefully get something done......like out of the EU, at last.
Exactly so maddyone ??
And also grampie
With you there Lemongrove
Can't understand why there are complaints about Joh Bercow - after all Brexiteers have said that they want their country and government back.
So Bercow is at least doing what the Maybot has not done - he has taken back control - Parliament is sovereign, not government.
She has had two years to sort it out . she has never wanted to leave the EU she was remainer. She will hang this out for as long as she can . Just leave with a hard brexit and save the country millions and make Britain a country to be proud of again.
I'm a remainer but realise we are highly unlikely to get another vote. So, our dear politicians should just get on with accepting the brokered deal and move onto dealing with this country's many problems which are being overlooked while they rant about Brexit. And I never want to hear that Cameron has been given a knighthood!
