Jury decisions coming in

The victims were murdered

An IRA intelligence chap gave evidence -

Innocent people were not meant to be killed , there was a fault in the telephone which was used to warn the police .

EllanVannin Fri 05-Apr-19 13:22:32

Interesting, Anniebach.

EllanVannin Fri 05-Apr-19 13:28:37

And 6 men were jailed for being falsely accused and imprisoned for 16 years. An absolute disgrace !

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 14:08:48

The imprisonments of six innocent men is separate , the verdicts today was for the murder of innocent people. The families want justice

maryeliza54 Fri 05-Apr-19 15:44:51

But part of getting justice is seeing the guilty punished.

paddyann Fri 05-Apr-19 16:44:17

as do the families of the CIVILIANS killed by the british army on Bloody Sunday Annie or is it one rule for them an danother for us ? Would you want justice if your 17 year old son was shot in the back by a soldier?

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 16:50:09

Paddyann in my opinion it is not the soldiers who should be prosecuted but those who gave the orders to kill.

Same if they ever prosecute those responsible for planting the bombs in Birmingham, let it be those who gave the orders , we know no one will be prosecuted for the Birmingham bombings.

If we are to discuss Bloody Sunday, a separate thread would be a good idea.

So far as the Birmingham bombings, the IRA spokesperson said the problem was with the phone call delay, it was never intended anyone should die. If bombs are planted, people may well die. It’s a miracle
No one died when Manchester Arndale was bombed
The Warrington bomb killed two children.
None of that should have happened.

maryeliza54 Fri 05-Apr-19 18:14:00

Agree on all your points Iam. I’m not really sure what the point of the thread is really. It’s dreadful the inquest has taken so long to happen - how awful for the families and friends and it’s awful there was such a mistcarriage of justice

Iam64 Fri 05-Apr-19 21:01:55

Thanks maryeliza - I always struggle with the notion that one person's freedom fighter is another person's terrorist. Nelson Mandela is one thing - those IRA people another imo. I sympathise of course, because of the history in Ireland, the oppression of catholics, the employment issues etc etc, very familiar with all of that. I take a simple view, killing people is just wrong.

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 21:19:04

I agree with your post Iam

Iam64 Fri 05-Apr-19 21:24:20

The men who were wrongly convicted continue to suffer as a result. If I’m right, only one of the bombers is still alive. I wish the IRA commanders would confess

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 21:41:08

After 16 years in prison but innocent they couldn’t be expected not to suffer for the rest of their lives ,

I think it was said only one of the bombers is still alive , no one will be charged

maryeliza54 Fri 05-Apr-19 21:51:44

I think Chris Mullins is wrong not to name him

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 22:00:00

He worked so hard to get the 6 released , did he not give the guilty assurances he would never name them ?

maryeliza54 Fri 05-Apr-19 22:06:32

This is a sober reminder of what happens to so called justice when the lynch mob take over. Judge Dennings comments at the appeal are truly appalling and an eternal stain on him and the judiciary. ab sometimes I think your word can be broken and the families of the dead and they injured and the B6 deserve to have the murderer named

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.irishexaminer.com/viewpoints/columnists/michael-clifford/it-is-25-years-since-the-birmingham-six-were-released-from-prison-387162.html

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 22:12:52

It’s so difficult maryeliza yes the families should be told but breaking a trust ?

maryeliza54 Fri 05-Apr-19 22:15:00

Protecting a murdering bastard is not protecting a trust imo but letting down scores of people who deserve better

maryeliza54 Fri 05-Apr-19 22:16:15

You only deserve to have your trust honoured if you are honourable imo

maddyone Fri 05-Apr-19 23:05:44

Iam64, you are so right, to quote you ‘killing people is just wrong.’
If bombs are set, it is to be expected that people may die.
Those times were awful, I expect we all remember them well.

Iam64 Sat 06-Apr-19 07:47:54

The Daily Mail this morning has a photograph of the alleged bomber, who lives in Dublin. He denies being responsible for the bombs and says when the extent of carnage was known, he disarmed another bomb left in Birmingham the same evening.
He describes the IRA as the best guerrilla army ever and refers to the bombs in England as being part of war. I thought a war involved armed people fighting each other, rather than bombs being placed in shopping centres or pubs.

I'm not defending the killing of unarmed protesters on Bloody Sunday. I don't exactly understand why one soldier can be prosecuted now whereas no one who murdered when they were active in the IRA can be.

Anniebach Sat 06-Apr-19 08:51:54

When an IRA member was found guilty of murder and sentenced , Corbyn fought to have him classed a political prisoner

maryeliza54 Sat 06-Apr-19 09:07:54

And there we have it ab. When I saw it was you who had started this thread I knew we wouldn’t get to the end of page 1 before you did what you’ve just done. I’m off this thread now

Anniebach Sat 06-Apr-19 09:14:39

Criticising Mullins is acceptable but criticising another MP
Isn’t?

Such devotion

EllanVannin Sat 06-Apr-19 09:26:47

If Mullin had been a Conservative would he have named the suspect ? Mmm !!
