Boris. Oh Good that why I'm a Tory.

Boris has promised to cut taxes for around 3 million higher earners by raising the 40p threshold from £50,000 to £80,000 if he becomes prime minister

Niobe Mon 10-Jun-19 09:19:09

And that is why I am not a Tory!

Sara65 Mon 10-Jun-19 09:20:48

That would be nice of course

But I’ve vowed never to vote Tory again

Luckygirl Mon 10-Jun-19 09:22:06

When will someone simply have courage to say that taxes need to rise to pay for health service, care and eliminating homelessness?

These cynical attempts to woo people to his side make me feel physically sick. It is all about power and nothing else.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 10-Jun-19 09:32:10

This would help 90% of our family members, they/we are not the "super rich" just hard working and fortunately successful in our chosen fields.

I would be "happier" if the government where able to collect more of the taxes due from the likes of Amazon, Google etc who use every tax loophole available to pay as little tax as possible.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 10-Jun-19 09:32:56

Sorry to pour cold water on your hopes alexa

It is a minority government. They are empty promises, as frankly are most things Johnson says. He’ll never get it through.

Greta8 Mon 10-Jun-19 09:33:12

Proud not to be a Tory. Quality public services need proper funding. Actually I do hope Boris is PM - he will further expose how useless the Tory party is and the dark roads they are taking us down.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 10-Jun-19 09:34:27

If you are also happy that the intention that the poor will pay for it as a much larger % of their salary, then frankly I would question your moral standpoint.

Alexa Mon 10-Jun-19 09:34:34

How is it nice to make the rich richer still?

Sara65 Mon 10-Jun-19 09:37:49

Granny gravy

Totally agree about Amazon and google

Jane10 Mon 10-Jun-19 09:43:43

Me too re Amazon and Google (and others). However, decent services have to be paid for. I'd rather pay to support these.
I still can't believe Boris could possibly be a contender. Mind you, it's a very short term job. If Theresa couldn't do it who can?

Urmstongran Mon 10-Jun-19 09:51:53

Theresa couldn’t do it because no deal was voted off the table - a very poor decision when trying to negotiate a deal - it focuses the EU on ‘no £39billion’.

All bets are off now. No deal is the legal default position. A Brexiteer PM and less Remainers in the Cabinet and Brexit will happen now.

Farage is watching and the Tories know it ....
?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 10-Jun-19 09:55:19

Whitewavemark2. Boris said nothing about increasing tax for the low paid??

My moral standpoint is that the elderly, disabled (mentally and physically) and those who lose employment should be helped. Those that are capable of work should be helped back into work.

trueblue22 Mon 10-Jun-19 09:55:24

alexa ....or to help the young aspiring and hard working families..

Whitewavemark2 Mon 10-Jun-19 10:00:38

No gg13 not TAXES, that would not affect a lot if the poor would it because they don’t earn enough to pay tax.

Oh no - Johnson has gone for NI instead.

Doesn’t touch one of his voting constituencies as we all know. Raises the threshold above the backbenchers salary.

Win win he thinks.

Well I trust that anyone with a modicum of a conscience will feel like they are taking their 30 pieces of silver.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 10-Jun-19 10:03:15

And that when we are one of the worlds wealthiest countries, our services have been cut to breaking point and our poverty levels, homelessness, mortality rates are all spiralling out of control because of the immorality that is the Tory party.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 10-Jun-19 10:10:29

Johnson seems to have escaped the court case which was over his alleged lying before the referendum.

In fact it seems there is nothing to prevent MPs lying at all which surprised me.

They do have a however guidance by the Standards committee. One would hope at the very least that the British Prime Minister conformed to these standards.
Not a hope if Johnson gets the leadership.

Selflessness

Integrity

Objectivity

Accountability

Openness

Honesty

Leadership.

Ha bloody ha!

Jane10 Mon 10-Jun-19 10:12:33

Ha bloody ha indeed!

Urmstongran Mon 10-Jun-19 10:12:36

And yet Labour loves claimants and Labour loves idle town hall bureaucrats and Labour loves idling workers in the public services, and Labour loves all the failing nationalised industries, because everyone who's idle and failing votes Labour.

Rowantree Mon 10-Jun-19 10:12:47

I'm actually pretty scared whoever wins, but Johnson is a career poltician and just wants that top job, end of story. He's manipulating people to that end and has been for years. Many think he's an ambiable buffoon but he's dangerous in what he's proposing, in his outlook and philosophy (if he has one). I can't stand him. Or any of the Tory candidates. God help us all, but particularly the poor, the disabled, the sick, the unemployed, the single-parent families, women, those in education, the NHS, the environment, the barely-managing, ethnic minorities...but if you're wealthy and white and don't give a stuff about the rest of it then you're laughing.

Gonegirl Mon 10-Jun-19 10:14:13

Whitewave Sorry to pour cold water on your hopes alexa

You could be shooting the messenger there. grin

Elvive Mon 10-Jun-19 10:15:10

UG, is your tongue in your cheek there?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 10-Jun-19 10:15:31

Yes I thought that after?. Apology alexa

Rowantree Mon 10-Jun-19 10:15:52

Urmstongran I'm neither idle nor failing. Labour supports 'claimants' because otherwise they struggle. You can't fail to have clocked the increasing numbers of food banks springing up? And as for nationalised industries, our current rail system is a feckin joke and desperately needs re-nationalising.
