The BBC have decided that free tv licences will only be available to over 75s who receive pension credit.
This will take effect from June 2020.
Everyone else will pay the full amount.

sad

kittylester Mon 10-Jun-19 15:07:33

Brilliant Idea (sorry Nina)

Framilode Mon 10-Jun-19 15:10:04

I'm OK with that - just a bit miffed that these changes always seem to happen just as we are due to receive the benefitgrin

Ginny42 Mon 10-Jun-19 15:16:47

I want to know how I can opt out as I never watch BBC. In fact I watch very little TV at all except on Yesterday, Channel 4 and Dave. I'm away from home a lot so it's not worth it for me, but I need a TV for family come -approximately 3 months per annum.

*for when family come

Kittye Mon 10-Jun-19 15:17:59

Heating allowance and bus passes next!

suziewoozie Mon 10-Jun-19 15:20:58

I don’t think the licence is for watching just the BBC is it?

kittylester Mon 10-Jun-19 15:22:29

Framilode, DH is 75 in August 2020!! grin

Kittye and, hopefully, prescription charges.

GabriellaG54 Mon 10-Jun-19 15:26:33

No, the fee includes radio and all mainstream tv channels.

EllanVannin Mon 10-Jun-19 15:30:40

It's bound to go up in price too. Ah well, it was good while it lasted.

suziewoozie Mon 10-Jun-19 15:31:07

I think you can listen to the radio without a licence

NanKate Mon 10-Jun-19 15:32:28

I’ve been expecting it. I do hope Bus Passes remain as it is a great way to get older people out and about.

GabriellaG54 Mon 10-Jun-19 15:33:43

Yes, you can listen to the radio without a licence.

suziewoozie Mon 10-Jun-19 15:35:26

Thank you

GabriellaG54 Mon 10-Jun-19 15:36:15

I too hope that free bus passes remain but if not, I'm happy to pay as long as people on reduced incomes are able to travel freely.

Loislovesstewie Mon 10-Jun-19 15:47:30

The tv licence finds the BBC but you have to buy one even if you never watch any BBC channel. I'm fuming because when you consider the fees that are paid to sports pundits and the multiple reporters on news programmes a huge amount. could be saved by cutting the numbers. Cut the numbers and cut their fees/ salaries first .

kittylester Mon 10-Jun-19 15:56:00

I think the licence fee is for a having a receiver not watching BBC.

BlueBelle Mon 10-Jun-19 15:56:56

Just as I m getting to 75 !!! I don’t receive any benefits but I only have a pension coming in but I saved for my old age when I was at work which I daren't dig into as I ve no idea what I ll need in a few years time
I do think it’s fair that people with a decent income pay for the licence but it doesn’t take into consideration the in-betweens
Ah well

Labaik Mon 10-Jun-19 15:59:53

... but it doesn’t take into consideration the in-betweens...yep; that's me I'm afraid.

Charleygirl5 Mon 10-Jun-19 16:01:20

I have enjoyed one free year.

Jane10 Mon 10-Jun-19 16:09:34

I'm happy to pay towards BBC TV and radio programmes. It's worth it to me. As long as those on pension credits still have one free it's OK by me.
I love and use my bus pass though!

EllanVannin Mon 10-Jun-19 16:14:49

If bus passes go, it'll be a taxi into the village as it's not much more by taxi than it is 4 stops away.

The whole idea of a TV Licence is outdated - it should be completely scrapped and the BBC funded from general taxation.

Surely 99% of the population benefit from the BBC in some way.

GabriellaG54 Mon 10-Jun-19 16:19:55

I might buy a skateboard if the free bus pass gets removed winkgrin
