Six Parliamentary Committees have announced that a citizens’ assembly on the climate emergency will be held in the autumn to explore the fastest and fairest ways to end the UK’s carbon emissions. What do we think?

Holding a Citizens Assembly is one of the three demands made by Extinction Rebellion. It's the second of these demands that the Government has responded too - so someone somewhere in power agrees with what they're asking for and clearly their methods have been effective.

Good.

What with a 3rd runway planned, flights in and out of airports at breakneck speed, more cars on the road than ever, how on earth can the climate be controlled. More and more people inhabiting the planet, trees still being chopped down disturbing the habitats of birds and animals. We need trees more than anything to soak up CO2.

Cracking down on crime should be the main objective right now.

Friends of the Earth currently have a petition to double the number of trees in UK.

Don't really see how cracking down on crime will stop climate change, or why we should give up trying. Not saying that there is anything wrong with reducing crime, just that it is not a case of one or the other.

Absolutely great.

Well I prefer not to see or hear about the heinous knife crimes on a daily/weekly basis, which does alter the climate so far as having peace in our time is concerned.
The more crimes, the extra use of all facilities including cars/ambulances and in some cases fire-engines-------all adding to the " unnecessary " pollution caused by the continuous responses from these vehicles, cars stopping and starting to let them pass.

Until people stop using cars there'll always be a problem as has been proven with the number of children living in/near towns and cities who've developed asthma.

People dropping off children to school, who only live 10 yards away, they're the ones, in their " tanks " who need lecturing.

We, growing up in the 50's and 60's put up with billowing smoke from chimneys, pea-souper fogs, buses spewing out noxious smoke and fumes yet there was never any mention of " climate change " or anything. Those were the days when the population was probably just over 50 million for this small island.

From where I'm sitting, the air is cleaner than it's ever been since the cessation of coal fires. I doubt there'll be any moaners living in the countryside or on the coasts.
