With the 50th Anniversary of the first lunar landing approaching, what impact has this had on the World? An incredible feat of science, technology and engineering combined with the bravery and skill of the astronauts. I feel privileged to have been of the generation who achieved this.

Just watched a fascinating programme about the lunar landing. Didn't quite understand what the narrator meant when he said, they let Buzz Aldrin think that he was first on the moon, or something to that effect.

crazyH. I think the narrator said words to the effect that Buzz Aldrin was going to be the first man on the moon and at the last minute the protocol changed. Really interesting programme .

I've written on the Good Morning thread that this documentary has a special meaning for my family as my DD was born as those events were being played out on the Moon. I was surprised to learn Aldrin was expected to have been the first to step off onto the Moon's surface. Did Armstrong, 'push in'?

I wondered how Michael Collins felt after all the risks and exhausting journey to be the one not to step on the Moon.
