Johnson is promising money all over the place, glad handing hospital staff, money for schools blah blah blah. Assuming that these promises are kept, am I the only one who is wondering why this pot of money wasn't opened before? As a long term member of the previous administration, as were many of his cabinet cohorts, why didn't he try to get some of these (now) necessary funds spent before? Does this mean that austerity was not necessary for the financial health of the country but was simply Tory policy to spend as little as possible?
