There will be no chance of a U.S.-U.K. trade deal if Brexit puts at risk the 1998 peace accord between Ireland and Northern Ireland, U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday.

“We must ensure that nothing happens in the Brexit discussions that imperils the Good Friday accord, including but not limited to the seamless border between the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland,” Pelosi told the Irish parliament, according to the Irish Times.

“If the Brexit deal undermines the accord, there will be no chance of a U.S.-U.K. agreement."

Some fear a potential hard border on the island of Ireland after Brexit could threaten to provoke a return to the violence seen before the Good Friday Agreement.

quizqueen - and there, you have just proven the point perfectly. Thanks.

WTO has already said we cannot trade as we Boris is planning to do, The EU has said there was no cake and eat or renegotiations, Nancy Pelosi said there is no way a Deal with the USA, whatever Trump says, can come to fruition if it endangers peace in Ireland and NI.

It is all flying over the cuckoo's nest.

Those young people have 3 main theories

a) they have been brainwashed

b) they just don't care and stubborn as mules

c) they are ... let you guess sad take your pick

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we are all dead by the time the UK recovers.

How do you work that one out?

How about the ones who voted for this being less aggressive and more understanding?

It is not Brexit which is causing family problems, it's the fact that those who voted to remain in the EU will not accept the result of a democratic vote. In a few years time when the UK is a successful exporting country and the EU has, hopefully, sunk without a trace when the Italians kick off, I hope you will all be on this site grovelling with an apology for being wrong.

Not on the side of the bus -

"We'll spend £2.1 billion taking us into a recession."

and it is the same on French sites- no intention of going to UK to visit relatives, and being 'far to busy' for invites over ...

Don't want to open yet another thread. So here is goes- reading again today, on a remain site, sons and daughters saying how they argue constantly with parents about Brexit- and so many who have actually openly fallen out, or just do anything to avoid being with them so that they don't get across the line that could not be reversed.

Brexit is truly breaking up families and friendships- and at times ti feels like civil war. I am fully aware some or many of you will not understand this, and say it is 'silly'- it is nothing os the sort.

How about "We will bring the £ into parity with the €" that wasn't on the bus and we are heading for it (thank to crystaltips).

Of course, "do or die" is the message.

This morning on the Today programme somebody stated he was "now less frightened of a no-deal Brexit". It begs the question why should he be frightened at all?

Michael Gove will spend "whatever it takes" to prepare for a no-deal Brexit.
