I'm not worrying enough.

What's going to happen?

dragonfly46 Thu 29-Aug-19 14:32:15

Nobody knows - that is the problem.

gillybob Thu 29-Aug-19 14:38:23

Well with no disrespect intended Gonegirl it depends how you and yours will be effected.

Here in the North east we rely heavily on big industry to provide jobs for 1000's of people plus those first, second and third tier suppliers (such as ourselves) .

If it all goes horribly pear shaped Nissan could pull out of the NE and the UK altogether leaving absolute devastation in their wake. Not forgetting that Renault have around a 55% stake, effectively put them in control . I can imagine that Nissan/Renault moving to France would be just what the doctor ordered for Macron et al.

That was just one example, there are plenty more, but as I said it depends on your own circumstances how you will be effected.

There’s no need to worry gonegirl.
There are plenty of people doing enough worrying for us all!
Just chill and get on with life.

gillybob Thu 29-Aug-19 14:41:04

Ooops sorry I thought this was a serious thread.

Just ignore me. blush

PamelaJ1 Thu 29-Aug-19 14:44:34

It may be Gillybob,
I’m serious. Can’t see that my joining in the worrying is going to make an iota of difference to anything.
If you want to worry then go ahead.

jura2 Thu 29-Aug-19 14:56:53

I've answered your question on the other thread.

No-one can possibly know why this abject, dreadful situation, and the UK ont he brink of civil war - is not making you worry. There could be several explanations- and it is best if I keep my guesses to myself, really.

In fact- am going to give GN a wide birth for a while - as I would otherwise probably be banned soon. Enough is enough.

humptydumpty Thu 29-Aug-19 15:03:32

Congratulations Pamela it must be delightful not to have to worry your head about how the rest of the population of the UK will be affected; just stay in your nice comfortable cave.

vena11 Thu 29-Aug-19 15:11:20

I feel quite depressed when I think of it. Everyone debating it and speculating it . I wish it was here and then what ever the out come, we will just have to get on with it .

SirChenjin Thu 29-Aug-19 15:18:35

The worst case scenarios are set out in the Govt's Yellowhammer report and hese raise just some of the concerns that Remainers have. This article in the Guardian summarises the key points www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/aug/18/no-deal-brexit-key-points-of-operation-yellowhammer-report

BlueBelle Thu 29-Aug-19 15:26:05

Could anyone really be asking this question after three years and you know what I bet you voted to leave or didn’t vote at all I can’t really take this for real
No one has yet to tell me what the problem was with EU a lot of money and a lot of projects started with Eu money
Well hang around a few more weeks and you ll see what we are worried about
Selfish though process pamelaj shrieks of I m alright Jack

I alternate between quiet desperation and fear Gillybob, I have relatives in the freight forwarding industry, chiefly transporting food between Scotland and Europe, and they are deeply worried. It wouldn't be so concerned if I thought we had a responsible government to see us through the coming rough tides, but Gove who changes his statements with the wind does not inspire my confidence, and I think my opinion on the character of Johnson is well known and needs no repeating. Corbyn is a bland, helpless, ineffective waste of space, Jo Swinson is well meaning but totally out of her depth, we really need some grown ups to step in and sort this mess out. I feel for you, I have been there, with responsibility for paying other people's rent and it is a lonely place Gilly.

petra Thu 29-Aug-19 15:30:01

Gonegirl
There you have it the uk on the brink of civil war
Enough to worry about ?
Now, back to the real world ? where the sun is shining and alls good.

Gonegirl Thu 29-Aug-19 15:32:38

Bluebell I voted to remain. Your suggestion that I might not have voted is downright, and unnecessarily, insulting.

jura there will NOT be civil war. Talk about silly panic, not to mention scaremongering.

This is a serous thread.

Please only reply if you can actually answer my question. Not just to insult me.

Thank you gillybob. I hope things turn out better for you than you expect.

Urmstongran Thu 29-Aug-19 15:33:09

There are a lot of smiley people about - on TV programmes for instance.

Not enough people speculating about ‘civil war’ it seems!

Gonegirl Thu 29-Aug-19 15:33:55

And thank you Pamela.

Gonegirl Thu 29-Aug-19 15:36:13

And I do realise petra that all is not good in the "present world" Not in mine nor the world in general.

Jane10 Thu 29-Aug-19 15:41:43

I think people have got themselves worked up into a state. Westminster should have agreed to Theresa's deal and they'd be well down the road sorting out the various issues and possibly even having a general election. They didn't and are paying the price now. Three years blethering and they've achieved nothing. Boris has taken a decisive step in attempt to just move things on.

crystaltipps Thu 29-Aug-19 15:44:49

Should we be stockpiling Italian tinned tomatoes and pasta?

Loislovesstewie Thu 29-Aug-19 15:45:03

If we have no deal then we have to revert to World Trade Organization rules and that means tariffs. So what we sell abroad will have tariffs added making our goods more expensive. That is the crux of the matter.

Nonnie Thu 29-Aug-19 15:56:37

I think if you read yellowhammer and WTO rules you will get a picture of what is going to happen. I think it will worry you. You might also like to look at how the £ has dropped since the vote in 2016, over 25%.

Alternatively you can find excuses for all of the above and bury your head in the sand. Entirely up to you.

Will it affect me? Yes it already has, we have American shares which are worth 25% more than they were before the £ crashed so we are making a profit! Yes, food will be more expensive and some may be limited, if my meds are unavailable I will probably die. We can afford to pay more and are retired so son't need to worry about losing jobs. Looks like we will be OK but what about all those who won't?

I admire those MPs who have put their jobs on the line for the sake of the country.

Urmstongran Thu 29-Aug-19 16:04:22

YellowHammer was drawn up in July under the request of Timid May and Eeyore Hammond, who at the time, wasn’t and hadn’t released enough money from the public coffers to ameliorate No Deal.

Now we have Boris and a completely different cabinet with a ‘can do’ approach.

There’s a lot changed in 6 weeks.

Upwards and onwards now towards Brexit. ....finally the silent majority have the A Team in place!

crystaltipps Thu 29-Aug-19 16:14:21

A*rseh*le Team is about right. A bunch of talentless bigots out to make a mint.

Urmstongran Thu 29-Aug-19 16:19:30

Maybe worriers think we’ll be driving wooden framed Morris Minors again soon... if anyone is nice enough to donate the petrol?

SirChenjin Thu 29-Aug-19 16:27:02

Yes, that's exactly what we're worried about hmm
