Gina Miller and John Major's case against the PM proroguing Parliament thrown out.

Dinahmo Fri 06-Sep-19 11:49:56

The court has already agreed to pass her case up to the Court of Appeal.

janeainsworth Fri 06-Sep-19 11:52:06

She has leave to appeal to the Supreme Court Firecracker so perhaps you should wipe the smile off your own face.

Even if she loses, the more publicity about Boris Johnson’s arrogance and disregard for the principles of representative democracy the better.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 06-Sep-19 11:56:32

I watched her statement; she was her usual measured self. That's both the Scottish and English cases going to higher courts. I think I read a similar case had been raised in the Northern Irish courts. Does anyone know how that is progressing.

Yet another unpleasant thread heading..

Aggressive and deliberately provocative, from someone who denies that she writes rabid and ranting posts and claims to be just a nice granny who only worries about her DGC.

I know we've been told we can't have an edit
button but how about being able to block posters?

SirChenjin Fri 06-Sep-19 12:00:40

My goodness - what a nasty thread title.

Nandalot Fri 06-Sep-19 12:01:27

Yes, a very unpleasant thread title.

Framilode Fri 06-Sep-19 12:07:04

Firecracker You sound in a bit of a panic. Calm down dear.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 06-Sep-19 12:11:24

I have asked for an "ignore" facility many times mcem, but apparently we are not going to get it.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 06-Sep-19 12:12:32

Does anyone know about NI? Just to get back on topic.

growstuff Fri 06-Sep-19 12:12:41

Why wasn't the thread title about wiping the smug smile off John Major's face?

lemongrove Fri 06-Sep-19 12:21:39

Firecracker ?Yes, must admit I thought much the same on hearing that.Miller has been one of those high profile people
Doing their level best to keep us in the EU.

Hard to see that even with an appeal she will succeed.

Jabberwok Fri 06-Sep-19 12:22:40

Hang on! Is this the same John Major who did exactly the same for three weeks in 1997 in order that the cash for questions report wouldn't see the light of day before a GE? This report could potentially have wrecked his chances of success, so best it was kept sensibly, but deceitfully under wraps till after the GE was in the bag!!! His hypocrisy takes your breath away!!

lemongrove Fri 06-Sep-19 12:25:46

It does amaze me that posters want to ‘block’ seeing any posts they don’t agree with.
Also, it seems that anything goes ( in thread titles or otherwise) if it’s aimed at a politician/celeb that a poster doesn’t like.
If they do like them.....then it’s called ‘unpleasant’.?

SirChenjin Fri 06-Sep-19 12:31:41

No, it's because of the confrontational, mysogynistic, aggressive tone of the thread title - but given that GM is loathed by the more extreme Leavers it comes as no surprise.

SirChenjin Fri 06-Sep-19 12:32:20

misogynistic

growstuff Fri 06-Sep-19 12:35:08

Do some people have to create opportunities to clutch their pearls? hmm

mcem Fri 06-Sep-19 12:35:35

Not quite my point lemon.
I rarely agree with your posts but always find them reasonable and coherent. I would not block yours.
However when a particular poster has established a recognisable pattern of nastiness, I'd happily shut her out.
Unfortunately, if that poster then wrote an interesting, albeit controversial contribution, I would miss it.
That's a risk I'd be willing to take.

Thank you mcem and I would say that it is mutual, and I always read your posts too.

GrandmaKT Fri 06-Sep-19 12:41:58

I think putting people on ignore would be going down a dangerous route. Facebook algorithms already mean that posters see more of the type of article/post that they have interacted with. People are having their opinions/ pre-conceptions reinforced and not seeing the opposite view. This is partly the reason (imho) that we are seeing such entrenched positions over Brexit.

lemongrove Fri 06-Sep-19 12:43:20

Exactly GrandmaKT.....well put.

Urmstongran Fri 06-Sep-19 12:45:22

So the same decision here as the earlier one in the Scottish courts. The appeals will go nowhere too, in my humble.

Anyway keepup the spending Gina -- your friends at the BBC might help you out with some interview fees if you start to run short but then you'd have to overcome your obvious camera shyness.....

?

Bit of a nerve considering JM prorogued parliament twice. Whoever would have dreamed that a politician would be so hypocritical?
