Amber Rudd has resigned from the government and joining the 21 rebels to stop Johnson

GrandmaKT Sat 07-Sep-19 21:37:42

In her resignation letter, she said she no longer believed leaving the EU with a deal was the government's "main objective".

She described the sacking of 21 Tory MPs on Tuesday as an "assault on decency and democracy".

About time. I could never understand how Amber Rudd aquiesced in being part of the government led by a man she would not trust to drive her home after a party.

Nicky Morgan must surely follow her.

absthame Sat 07-Sep-19 21:43:56

Very telling statement, she is believed to be one of Johnson's closest alies. Interesting he can't hold onto family or friends

Rudd backed Hunt in the leadership election.

At last she has shown some principles. I wonder who'll be next? Might even be Boris.

There were 301 in the bed when the blonde clown said 'roll over, roll over, so they all rolled over and one fell out. .................. There were 27--9--8 in the bed when the blonde clown said.................

Let's not forget that Anna Soubry [who today was too frightened to speak at a rally for fear of her own safety] was the first one to call this lot out. I very much hope she doesn't stand at the next election as I don't think her family could cope with it. From now on [imo] those that do resign their posts are just rats leaving a sinking ship. I've never known anything like it in politics...

absthame Sat 07-Sep-19 22:16:24

Let's hope that the bumbling blonde bombshell and his right wing egg strutters decide to leave the government nest.

absthame Sat 07-Sep-19 22:17:34

Efg strutters not egg strutters

Luckygirl Sat 07-Sep-19 22:27:54

Gosh - they are going down like ninepins!

Does BJ actually have a government at all?

GracesGranMK3 Sat 07-Sep-19 22:48:46

She's going to sit as an independent.

Riverwalk Sun 08-Sep-19 07:10:30

I'm surprised she accepted a position in his cabinet in the first place, especially as he made it a condition that you had to accept a No Deal brexit was a possibility.

She has a very small majority of about 300 in her seat, so I'm a little bit sceptical of her motives.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Sep-19 07:23:53

absthame there is no chance of Johnson or ERG leaving. The hard right is consolidating its hold and Cummings has told those who are feeling queasy over the direction this nationalistic Government is taking, that they “will melt” when they see what he has planned over the next few weeks.

Urmstongran Sun 08-Sep-19 07:25:37

I have it on unimpeachable authority that she only took the job to do this....

M0nica Sun 08-Sep-19 09:17:25

My opinion of her as soared if that is true.

jura2 Sun 08-Sep-19 09:21:47

Was amazed that Amber agreed to join BJ's government- but good on her for finally sticking to her principles and having the guts to stand up. I certainly hope that Nicky will follo asap- and many more.

Calendargirl Sun 08-Sep-19 09:23:24

She’s a Remainer, no intention of helping to secure Brexit.

Amagran Sun 08-Sep-19 09:34:35

Or, Labaik, they are ships leaving a sinking rat! smile

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Sep-19 09:35:39

I have it on unimpeachable authority that she only took the job to do this....

Of course you do UG. I should check out that single horn on the head of the horse whose mouth this came from UG.

jura2 Sun 08-Sep-19 09:54:26

Of course you do - as always USG - your wisdom amazes me ...

I woke up to the news Rudd had resigned; the newsflash said she was leaving the Conservatives and Parliament also.
Unfortunately this is not true. All the time I was watching her self-justifying interview with Andrew Marr a line from my old school song, forgotten for years, kept flashing through my mind:
" We will never bring disgrace to this our city, by any act of dishonesty, or cowardice, or ever desert our suffering comrades in the ranks." (apparently it was based on the pledge of Athens, and we thought it hilarious at the time; I understand it better now.)

She went to an extremely good school; obviously they singularly failed to inculcate any sense of honour in her. Nothing to do with Brexit but everything to do with loyalty.
She and her twenty -one colleagues need to be expunged forthwith.
