Police chief warning

Terrorism from the far right is becoming a serious threat in the U.K. with many violent plans foiled yearly by the counter-terrorism teams. MI5 have taken the lead in thwarting the plots, which shows just how serious these threats are becoming .

The police have outlined and identified 3 distinct groups in the U.K. driven by 3 distinct ideologies (although tbh I can’t see much difference in them).

1. Cultural Nationalism

Anti-Islam, anti-immigration, anti-government.

Islamaphobia and violence against Muslims are recorded by this group.
The BBC has given evidence of growing Islamaphobia in the Tory party.

2. White nationalism, Identitarianism

As well as assimilating the ideology of the first group, this group places high importance on a white race.

New Zealand mosque shootings was a result of this ideology.

3 White Supremacism

Even greater significance placed on a white race. Give high prominence to conspiracy theory.
Rosie Cooper was threatened to be murdered by this now banned group.
Steve Bannon is a self proclaimed White Supremacist. He has links in America, Canada, UK , Eastern Europe, Germany and South America.

New Zealand mosque shootings was a result of this ideology

Absolutely true but the huge outpouring of anger against that Australian man, by the vast majority of New Zealanders sent a clear message that we will NOT tolerate actions and racist attitudes like this.

You really had to be here to see it and other Kiwis will tell you that every school, business, government department, shop and every social group of any kind not only took to the streets but had nationwide meetings to see how they could help; planted trees to memorialise the dead, and thousands and thousands of bouquets and wreaths were laid at the gates of every mosque in NZ.

Some $12 million was raised within days and for a population of just over 4 million people, that too sends a clear message about who we support.

And it hasn't gone away or beed forgotten, even today I read that a truckload of building materials has gone to Christchurch to help with some homes, as people now need special provision for disabled or elderly hurt during that tragic time.

EllanVannin Fri 20-Sep-19 12:26:39

I wonder why ??

GracesGranMK3 Fri 20-Sep-19 12:28:18

It was certainly a very impressive reaction even seeing it from afar BradfordLass. Sadly I am quite sure it is not the one we would get in England.

EllanVannin Fri 20-Sep-19 12:30:32

I'm not saying that it's right to form these " terror groups " and retaliation never solved anything but for goodness sake study the bigger picture and ask yourselves why this sort of thing is happening.

jura2 Fri 20-Sep-19 12:33:30

I wonder why, what? EllanV?

BF vigilantes now patrolling the Kent Coast- they have shown to be very violent at times - will they be able to control themselves? I fear the worst.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 20-Sep-19 12:34:34

bradford that is so heartening to read.

I would like to think that this could happen in the UK. But I’m concerned at the support given to these extreme right terrorists in the U.K. even on GN.

These groups include
The Football Defence League
English Defence League
British National Party - a high profile member is Tommy Robinsono
Generation Identity
National Action (banned)

Of course one of the most well known world wide is White Supremacist Steve Bannon - who has frequent contacts with facist groups in Europe, as well as our own Prime Minister, who has received help from Bannon over speeches.
Farage and others are of course in frequent contact.

Their influence is insidious, particularly as so much of what they say appears “common sense” to particular groups and easy slogans to remember and repeat. Without critical thinking by the listeners these messages are being absorbed into the psyche and accepted as normal.

mcem Fri 20-Sep-19 12:40:23

So EV would you say these groups are justified in their attitudes?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 20-Sep-19 12:49:23

Oh yes varian has just reminded me on another thread.

The person selecting the QT audience Fuller-Pendleton is a supporter of far right groups. She has posted her support on twitter.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 20-Sep-19 12:51:50

That should be Pedley, my iPad thinks it knows better

EllanVannin Fri 20-Sep-19 12:57:13

Like I said, MCEM, retaliation solves nothing but why does it have to come to this in the first place ?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 20-Sep-19 12:58:29

Retaliation against what ev?

EllanVannin Fri 20-Sep-19 13:12:56

The government of course Whitewavemark !

Whitewavemark2 Fri 20-Sep-19 13:20:25

ev OK.

Can you explain how and why this encourages people to develop these ideologies and join these far right groups.

I’m not sure I understand that

EllanVannin Fri 20-Sep-19 13:45:35

These groups are formed to prevent the far left from being the only ones allowed to free speech, like Corbyn's lot .

How do you feel about this nationalistic state sending those who've already settled in this country, back to their places of birth, after Brexit----then closing the gate ??

GracesGranMK3 Fri 20-Sep-19 13:53:13

EllanVannin what a load of extremist rubbish. What you are saying simply makes no sense.

EllanVannin Fri 20-Sep-19 14:04:31

The late John Tyndall who was once leader of the National Front was against EU membership so what does that tell all you Brexiteers ? Fascism reigns, does it not,Neo=Nazi-ism !?

EllanVannin Fri 20-Sep-19 14:05:59

Say what you like GGMK3 Brexit is tantamount to far-right !!

EllanVannin Fri 20-Sep-19 14:10:49

I'm all for a united England and also a united Ireland.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 20-Sep-19 14:25:17

ev thank you for your explanation, but I’m still puzzled. So this is what I understand you to be saying.

The extreme right ideology is being developed to stop the extreme left (you don’t specify who except to say “Corbyn’s lot).

But then you go on to say that this nationalistic state is sending people back?
Do you mean this government?

To be honest I can’t understand what you are saying.

LondonGranny Fri 20-Sep-19 14:34:54

These extreme right-wingers were always there but now feel really emboldened and don't hide in the shadows so much now. They were around in the 1930s (cheered on by the Daily Mail...plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose) and never really went away. My son really narrowly missed one of of the London nail bombs. He heard it go off but was out of range of any shrapnel.

Far-right extremism is the fastest growing terrorist threat in the UK, according to the country’s most senior counter terrorism officer.

Neil Basu, the Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner, said seven of the 22 plots foiled since March last year were linked to far right ideologies. And he warned that public speakers, including politicians, need to be very careful about their rhetoric.

www.channel4.com/news/far-right-extremism-is-fastest-growing-terror-threat-in-uk-police-say

The point that Mr Basu makes about politicians needing to be careful about their rhetoric is very important. We have long had to suffer the irresponsible rantings of Farage and his ilk, but many Conservative politicians have indulged in appalling hate speech in the last three years, using words like "betrayal" about anyone who opposed brexit. You might expect it from the swivel-eyed ERGs, but it was sad to hear Theresa May use words like that, designed to inflame and foment civil unrest.

Chuka Umunnna blasts Emily Thornberry after 'grossly insulting' claim Lib Dems are like the Taliban on Brexit

The Streatham MP tweeted: "Emily Thornberry should withdraw her inappropriate remarks. Language counts - comparing the @LibDems to a murderous organision is no laughing matter.

www.politicshome.com/news/uk/political-parties/liberal-democrats/news/106684/chuka-umunnna-blasts-emily-thornberry-after

Exactly - as Mr Basu has reminded us -language counts. Emily Thornberry may be motivated by desperation as she made this irresponsible statement on the day the LibDems overtook Labour in an opinion poll, but that is no excuse. She should be ashamed of herself.

Labaik Fri 20-Sep-19 15:18:45

I've just read that the far right are travelling to Calais to warn people not to try to get here....

jura2 Fri 20-Sep-19 15:27:47

I do hope the French Police/CRS will stop them stirring trouble
