WHO RULES THE WORLD?

(This is a light-hearted topic - or is it? Do think about it for a while ...?)

My brother, who is always watching 'conspiratory theory' ideas, maintains that the world is run, not by Governments of politicians, but by the richest men in the world.

They decide when there should be a war, with whom, and where. And manipulate the outcome.

The World Wars, the Twin Towers, the rise of Terroism, is all down to them.

They are so powerful that they decide who will become Prime Minister, or President, or Head of State. They control scientific research, migration, epidemics, rates of employment and education - and all the other aspects of our lives.

In short, They completely control US.

And it's all for money (of course). So that They remain the richest, most powerful men in the world.

Sounds fantastic ...? Yes, it does - but who knows? (Feel I should have some spookey music here - but you'll just have to imagine it!)

Elegran Mon 30-Sep-19 12:25:39

They are all so busy competing with each other to make more and more money they couldn't sit down together and conspire to enslave the world. That would take co-operation and yielding to their rivals' opinions on how to do it.

ReadyMeals Mon 30-Sep-19 12:26:22

What has this got to do with anti-semitism? Rich people are all genders and races.

Elegran Mon 30-Sep-19 13:03:24

They have all types of personality, too - nice and nasty, mean and generous, jolly and miserable. There isn't a standard model they all follow.

Nanniejc1 Mon 30-Sep-19 13:28:50

Just look up the Bilderburg group on the Internet .......I think there is something to be said about your brothers theory.

I do think globalisation has led to multinational companies wielding a lot of power in the world today. And the power of elected governments and nation states has been reduced. For example such companies can move production to countries which have low or no taxation on company profits, where there are no labour laws to safeguard the earnings and safety of workers and so on. Then other countries have to follow suit to retain employment for their citizens. So whole areas of industry are lost to the UK for example or people have to work here on zero hours without holiday pay, sick leave and so on. Many of these international concerns control large sectors of commerce world wide. For example, arms, food and so on. And are immensely powerful. Perhaps some of you may have heard the phrase Big Pharma to describe the international pharmaceutical industry which has control over the price and distribution of drugs and can charge large amounts to the NHS, for example. News media is another area which is controlled by a few powerful people. So what you read in your newspapers is not value free but is designed to further the aims of the owners of such media corporations who are immensely rich and powerful. Any politician who wants to introduce laws to regulate the press for example is likely to be attacked. It is difficult for the leader of any political party to ignore these people because it is very difficult to win an election if there is constant personal abuse of you and your party in popular newspapers. All of these organisations are able to spend huge amounts of money furthering their aims. For example the food industry will fund research to try to deny that certain processed foods are unhealthy. Many politicians have personal vested interests of various kinds and are not immune to these sorts of influence. I don’t think this is a conspiracy theory as such. It is the nature of our world and with global warming is very dangerous for our survival. You might as easily say trying to deny or obscure these power systems is a form of conspiracy which they orchestrate in their own interest,

There's no snoke without fire....

GreenGran78 Mon 30-Sep-19 15:34:59

Maggieanne belief in a flat earth is a global phenomenon! Personally, I sometimes wonder if the whole world isn’t just an enormous computer game, controlled and played from another galaxy, and we are all the equivalent of Mario! grin

M0nica Mon 30-Sep-19 15:48:14

floorflock but there so often is. What about all those men that the fantatist, the police called 'Nick', in court named as Carl Beech, claimed had abused him. killed children and generally behaved vilely.

Every single event was a total fiction and the men he accused chosen because he recognised their names in the paper, or had at some time known someone who knew someone who knew them.

Every single accusation was utterly untrue and the men named were blameless, are you one of those sniggering behind your hand and saying 'No smoke without fire' about them?

grandtanteJE65 Mon 30-Sep-19 16:29:21

It used to be said that the major merchant banks ran the world, as they decided which governments could borrow money and at what rate of interest.

I find most conspiracy theories highly over-rated, before giving credence to them, perhaps we should all re-read "Foucault's Pendulum" by Umberto Eco.

That said, obviously those in power are influenced by their advisors, public opinion, financial issues and a great many other things, so I doubt it is possible to say who actually controls what or whom.

I agree with Sillyoldfool. However, I would be interested to know more about the programme that Newatthis mentions.

Dollybird1 Mon 30-Sep-19 17:22:59

The illuminati and new world order. The EU has been thought up by these. A new European army will soon appear. No it is not a theory. We are being controlled. If only people would really open their minds.

grapefruitpip Mon 30-Sep-19 17:33:24

I have long had my eye on the illuminati.

Hm999 Mon 30-Sep-19 17:43:56

Newspaper owners - have been saying this for 20yrs plus.

Esspee Mon 30-Sep-19 18:10:30

I'm with Maggieanne and GreenGran78 regarding the earth being flat. We know that it is carried on the back of a turtle - don't we ladies?
I also like the idea that we are all part of an inter galactic computer game too GreenGran78. Perhaps you could start a thread on it!
wink

floorflock Mon 30-Sep-19 18:52:05

Thank M0nica for shattering my illusions that I was entitled to an opinion...
I have absolutely no idea what you post is about?!

M0nica Mon 30-Sep-19 19:05:09

You said 'no smoke without fire' A statement I totally disagree with. I illustrated it with a reference to the recent case of Carl Beech, who over several years named a random selection of well known people, mainly political or establishment figures, accusing them of all sorts of heinous sexual crimes including murder.

It led to their houses being searched, in one case while the man's wife lay dying in another room. Absolutely nothing was found on their computers or in their houses to support these accusations. None of them knew or had ever met their accuser. It was later found that Carl Beech was a serial fantasist. He was recently went down for 18 years, I think.

This case has been on the front pages of the newspapers and on every news site for most of the last 5 years, cases against the police officers who accepted his claims with out evidence are still ongoing

Would you say of all those completely innocent men caught up in a fantasist's web that there is no smoke without fire?

You are of course entitled to your opinion, but being an entitled to an opinion, doesn't mean that others cannot challenge it if they do not agree or do not think it has a sound foundation - and that is all I did, queried your opinion because I think it is not sustainable.

Lyndie Mon 30-Sep-19 19:16:42

I think as a country we need to be more self sufficient. If only in the basics so we have control and can ignore more of the controlling outside influences . Maybe a pipe dream.!

Tamayra Mon 30-Sep-19 19:43:18

I agree & believe we are all part of a huge experiment run by off planet beings
Call me whacky, but do your own research & don’t bury your head in the sand through fear & ignorance

Solonge Mon 30-Sep-19 21:32:46

Lemongrove…..proof? I don't think you can throw in a comment like 'not true' and walk away. Where is the proof? or do you just think its silly...? more stupid ideas have proven true.

lemongrove Mon 30-Sep-19 21:52:46

I didn’t say ‘not true’ Solange I said ‘No, it’s a paranoid and false view’ ( just to quote my whole sentence) grin
Conspiracy theories are thought up by paranoid people and spread by social media.
The fact that there really are believers in a flat earth is amazing, is it not?
Very, very rich men (powerful and influential )very likely do try to get their fingers in political pies, especially in some countries where bribes and backhanders are rife.It doesn’t mean they are running the whole show and causing wars etc.

Carid Mon 30-Sep-19 22:36:28

Remember reading a book many years ago about a secret group of men who decided everything from PM to presidents, from war to peace.......they decided which country to lend money to and which to call in the debt...we were just puppets for their use to control world ?.....no one knew who and where ...
Made me realise politicians were just figure heads and a waste of space!

Google the film "Zeitgeist", a three section film. I watched it years ago after a recommendation from a friend. Don't know if any of it is true, but it really gave me pause for thought. I found the first section on religion absolutely fascinating and well worth a watch. Section 2 was all about the Twin Towers, scary conspiracy theory type bit. Section 3 is about the money men, Rothschilds, Rockefellers etc. Found that section a bit boring to be honest. Would thoroughly recommend watching the religion section though and getting other Gransnetters views on it.

Whether it is my opinion or not and I am just playing devil's advocate I am berated. Thank you

floorflock Tue 01-Oct-19 04:22:55

Chastened.

lemongrove Conspiracy theories are also brought up or, more likely, supported by vulnerable, confused and unhappy people.

As far as flat-earthers are concerned, my thought, along with many other pet lovers, is that if the Earth were flat, cats would have knocked everything off the edge years ago.
