You can bet your bottom dollar that the Misses Wax, Lowe, Stevenson and Misters Fry, Rylance et al are not sleeping on the streets, are still driving or being driven in cars and using their electronic gadgets. Still eating foods transported over thousands of miles, still wearing clothes made outside the UK, still not sorting their rubbish as assiduously as the average Brit, still spouting ignorant hypocritical nonsense.
They make me sick.
All of them, a***** of the first water.

I agree with OP . about the celebs......I think they cheapen the demo .

Anniebach Mon 07-Oct-19 15:32:54

What have they said/done ?

Grannyknot Mon 07-Oct-19 15:36:07

Joined the Extinction Rebellion demo that has caused chaos in London today. My OH couldn't get to work. Nor was St Thomas Hospital accessible.

The demonstrators did yoga, so they must be really "woke". (not).

maddyone Mon 07-Oct-19 15:40:57

Absolutely Gabriella.

Oopsminty Mon 07-Oct-19 15:43:48

Totally agree. And there's Juliet clutching a plastic bag.

Anniebach Mon 07-Oct-19 15:50:09

Thank you, these demo’s are so wrong stopping people getting to work and making a hospital inaccessible. So many
police there and we are paying

Grannyknot Mon 07-Oct-19 15:51:43

OopsMinty perhaps it is a "Bag for Life" so that's okay ? (nevermind that I see people now taking those as frequently as they used the lightweight ones before).

Urmstongran Mon 07-Oct-19 16:23:07

I guess it’s not the ski season just yet then.

JenniferEccles Mon 07-Oct-19 16:37:40

Exactly what are they attempting to achieve ?
The government has already made unrealistic promises about reducing carbon emissions so what exactly is the aim of ER ?

It really is the latest bandwagon to jump onto isn’t it?

PamelaJ1 Mon 07-Oct-19 16:39:51

Good job it wasn’t yesterday. They would have needed plastic macs☔️

grapefruitpip Mon 07-Oct-19 16:39:54

Outraged of Tunbridge Wells.

Damn lovies and people with plaits doing yoga in our streets.

Barmeyoldbat Mon 07-Oct-19 16:53:45

Not often I agree with you GB but this time I do 100%. Celebs add nothing to demos. I also think that the demonstrators should hold the demo for a shorter period of time and less often. Mr B doesn't agree but I don't care.

Anja Mon 07-Oct-19 16:56:44

Good on the protesters.

Besides people had lots of notice so could have made alternative arrangements.

Of course when the planet dies it won’t affect us, will it, we will be long gone? So eat, drink and be merry ???

Anja Mon 07-Oct-19 16:57:34

Good on the Slebs too.

JenniferEccles Mon 07-Oct-19 17:02:41

The planet isn’t going to die for heaven’s sake.

It is just an excuse for these attention seekers to have something to rant about.

Yes we should all try to do our bit but let’s not get it all out of proportion!

crystaltipps Mon 07-Oct-19 17:08:20

Hats off toER. We need to do much more, no good relying on recycling the odd plastic bottle. It’s heartbreaking to read of a 40% decline in wildlife in the U.K. since 1970, 84% of our rivers do not reach minimum cleanliness standards, pollution and of the seas by the fishing industry, pollution of the countryside by industrial agriculture, pollution of the air - all this should be tackled much more rigorously by governments and taken more seriously by all. The government are dragging their feet on this one. The suffragettes were sneered at and criticised for blocking roads and Wasting police time - no doubt people on here would have been part of that negativity.

Lazigirl Mon 07-Oct-19 17:12:42

I support the demo in raising the climate issue. Just because celebs are involved doesn't make it wrong, but I don't believe that any violence can ever be justified.

If we really took climate change seriously we would be far more inconvenienced because our present comfortable way of life would have to change.

Oopsminty Mon 07-Oct-19 17:12:43

It's not negativity. It's realism.

I know someone who's down in London today. Good friend of mine actually. She just enjoys the 'buzz'. She has no real interest in this cause. I expect there are many more like her.

This activity will not stop climate change.

Look to developing countries. Tell them their wish to improve their lives is ruining the planet.

We're babbling on about something we know nothing about.

Lazigirl Mon 07-Oct-19 17:15:03

Many of the developing countries are actually producing goods for us cheaply that we no longer manufacture ourselves.

We have in effect outsourced some of our pollution!

crystaltipps Mon 07-Oct-19 17:15:49

You may know nothing oopsminty but there’s plenty of evidence of species extinction and decline, degradation of the sea and air, scientific evidence on the damage human action has to the planet.

grannysyb Mon 07-Oct-19 17:17:04

Hope all the emergency workers can get to their jobs and do them once they are there. Most of us are trying in our small way to use less plastic etc.

EllanVannin Mon 07-Oct-19 17:35:04

Attention seekers is right, all trying to make a name for themselves like the brat who spouts about climate change. Pity these protesters/demo's didn't have something better to spout about. What a shower !

grapefruitpip Mon 07-Oct-19 17:41:13

I don't really think Ruby Wax OBE needs attention does she?

EllanVannin Mon 07-Oct-19 17:43:08

Nobody will recycle anything ? Why the decimation of forests for consumer greed ? It's all about greed, something that won't ever stop. Why the need for new ? This is what it amounts to.
